2 Interesting Gun Articles

Recommended Posts

The BBC has 2 gun articles today.

The first one that I saw made me laugh - the poor old fool. Perhaps the gun people need a new acronym DD (Darwin award discharge) for this one...

The second had a comment that I really liked as it seems to sum up the pro-gun attitude.

Unfortunately, the days of young men and women learning about guns and gun safety as children are long past in most of the country ... the last few bubble-wrap generations have seen to that.

Sounds like guns are penis substitutes in Britain, which is why their gun culture is so different than ours here.

And of course, the normal bias of using only the criminal, and illegal owners-carriers of handguns to base this article. No one that is law abiding, permit holder was interviewed was there?:S

The story didn't go far enough: was shooting the stuck lug nut successful in loosening it? Inquiring minds want to know.

If you think that sums up the attitude of all pro-gun people, then you're extremely wrong. You should note that the article was talking about criminals. Do not equate law-abiding gun owners with criminals who use guns.

Unfortunately, your mistake sums up the improper attitude of many anti-gun people - they presume that anyone with a gun is a criminal.

Despite the 1997 ban on handguns - introduced after the Dunblane massacre - the crooks increasingly favoured pistols and revolvers, which were easier to hide and more "fashionable".

But that's impossible! Shouldn't the ban have made the handguns go away?!:o

No. For that we have to stop manufacturing guns for the general public to buy. Guns should be made accesible to military and cops. When you take guns off market, they become harder to acquire, even for criminals. Gun bans dont work, because they dont take guns out of circulation.

And the guy who used the gun to change the tire is a poster boy for "idiot".

You're making illogical statements again. Stopping the manufacture of guns doesn't take guns out of circulation - it just stops putting more into circulation. It does nothing to remove all the other guns that already exist out there.

What you're talking about is complete confiscation. Is that what you're in favor of?

Here's a short history of the escalating lunacy of gun control in Britain:

Every one of those measures has failed to stop criminals. Yet, hope springs eternal for the gun-o-phobes. No matter how many gun control laws have failed in the past, they always want to try just one more. And now they're at the point of banning toys, still hoping that something will magically stop those blasted criminals.

You do realise that not all the guns are made in one country right? so a ban and confiscation would accomplish nothing.

although it worked really good for Hitler

I'll apply the same litmus test to this as I do to anything that the lawmakers come up with in regards to guns: Make the police the first group affected under the change - if they say it would put the cops in danger, why the HELL would it be a good idea for Joe Sixpack?

Hey, Mike... you've told your roomie that *he* shouldn't have guns, too....right? :P;):)

edit to add smileys for "giving a ration of shit" effect.
