Feminists Make the Best Lovers

Recommended Posts

Semantics can be so ugly.

:P

I associate the word mostly with the Women's Movement.

I "came of age" after the Berlin Wall fell, but I still never viewed the term has having a negative connotation. I certainly don't consider myself or feel the need to be part of any group or club.

I shave my legs and have bras in every color of the rainbow. And if you called me a feminist I'd probably just smile and say "thank you".

Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Marg- I see where Darius is coming from. Living in the Bay Area we have a lot of feminists in the vein he describes, starting with one of my lesbian aunts (though it is far less overt than it was 15 years ago for her). And then you go to the Cal campus - they may only be a small percentage, but they overwhelm the silent majority. (just as with the case of just about any political advocacy on campus)

and that's really the crux of it - the strong women I know just go ahead and live their life. They're not spending much time crying about how unfair the world is, in part because the Bay Area is as close to equal as we're likely to ever see. Most of the sexism my friends encounter is on business trips out of the area.

What the hell? I'm obviously way out of the loop. Or likely it's just another California thing.

Is there a questionnaire someone could post to determine if one is a feminist or not?

And they scare the bejebus out of poor little threatened inadequate ineffectual men who cant handle anything other than a subservient woman in their sad little lives.. forcing them to call the woman who wont give them the time of day names like dyke... or lesbian.... to overcome THEIR own shortcomings in life. The simplest way to find out if a guy is like this is the DOG OR CAT person question...if a guy hates cats....he sure as hell will not like a woman who does not do subservience very well.

I'm a feminist. I'm really sorry that the word has become tarnished by the image of a strident me-firster type, rather than simply being someone who thinks that women are able to do all the things that Darius so eloquently said.

OTOH, maybe the evolution of the word means that all those capabilities are institutionalized enough that we don't need to remind women that they can do them. That would be nice.

Treat feminists like anyone else; make sure you know what they think it means to be one. Then you treat people like individuals.

Q: What do you call a woman with two black eyes?

A: One who didn't listen the first time.

>any different then religious fanatics.

When most whuffos hear of skydiving, they think of insane, screaming guys with a deathwish who jump from planes mainly to get that thrill you get from almost dying. Adrenalin is everything to them; "safe skydiving" is an oxymoron. They skydive after drinking, doing drugs etc to increase that risk level, which is what they live for. When their chute doesn't open one day and they die, none of their friends are the least bit put off; after all, they all knew it was inevitable. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise.

And they're provably right - they saw a guy like that once on a Mountain Dew commercial! And they've seen Drop Zone and Point Break.

As Nerdgirl mentioned, constant repetition of a meme can get it more accepted - but doesn't necessarily make it more accurate.

The problem with that is that we have all been exposed to the radical, man hating feminist, even if they claim that they aren't.

We only have to look at the feminization of the education system. Anything that smacks of masculinity is given the smack down. Kids can't partake in any games or activities that have the potential of harm or the possibility of someone being out or it.
There was only one boy in our school who could be considered a sissy, and his mom was divorced and single. Today, there are soft males by the droves, and it is my belief that the feminist movement is the major cause of it. No proof, just my observation.

At risk of sidetracking badly,

I agree there's a bunch of sissy boys, but I think they all voluntarily choose to be that way, in an attempt to get into the pants of the women out there who no longer accepted the man of the 50s model. The feminist agenda of equal access, no rape or spousal abuse can't really be blamed.

At even greater risk of derailment, women of SC, do you actually like these spineless seeming men? Or are women that skydive less inclined to respect such people?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

This is highly amusing.

If it helps, I like my men to have a bigger tool box than mine. Yes--my father equiped me with the know-how and tools before he kicked my ass out into the world. I can fix & install many things.

Billly came with two humongous red, metal tool chests filled with all sorts of gadgets. And he does most of the constructing & fixing. I'm more "quality control" now which is like WAY more fun.:P

Just like most whuffos have seen the examples of the insane, deathwish skydiver. Heck, they've probably even met him personally - I've listened to at least one "skydiver" go on and on in college bars about their death defying adventures jumping from 60,000 feet.

It's a reduction in both sides, actually. You can as easily complain about the "masculization" of the education system by administrators who can't stand to see women wear sexy outfits, and thus want to make them dress like boys. (Or who want them to take shop and force them to be unfeminine, play softball or other unfeminine sports etc.)

?? What does your definition of "sissy" have to do with anything? I'm sure most skydivers would be considered "sissys" by school bullies. So what?

I’ll be part of the dah group, but I’ll explain why.

I think there is nothing sexier and better for our society then woman who know what they want and are not afraid to ask for it. I have nothing but respect for strong woman. My SO is strong and speaks her mind and I love it. However I would not consider her a feminist and she would consider her self the anti-feminist.

When I hear the word feminist I think of annoying hypocritical fanatic woman who hate everything that has a penis. They’re so illogical that they can not admit fact and their whole life is navigated by their “cause” not any different then religious fanatics.

I think maybe I understood the term wrong but often the annoying ones are the ones you hear from. The fanatics always make more noise, and when I hear the term feminist that is what I think.

I agree. I prefer the term humanist ...each of us, men and women, exploring and growing unfettered by cultural expectations and limitations.

The term feminist, to me, implies a perceived priority for women.

When I think of Feminists, I think of very frustrated and power hungry women acting in ways they think a man would act..........and it is ridiculous.

And in the scope of what most think feminist is, I think more men are real Feminists than women, but that may be a different topic! Maybe we should all read a few books by Camille Paglia!:D:D

Paglia is despised by her own side because she speaks plain truths about the sexes, rather than toeing the feminist party line and spouting the same old tired dogma.

All the more reason to read her. She's a fabulous writer and she's usually dead-on in her observations of contemporary gender-based anthropology.

Is it "very frustrated and power hungry women” or …. is it backlash against women who achieve a position of power and when they (actually) use that power are ridiculed?

For example, when Secretary of State Rice was critical of Russian corruption, specifically with respect the Ukrainian and Moldavian petroleum crisis in January 2006, the response of a prominent Russian law-maker and leader of Russia's ‘Liberal and Democratic’ party (quoted in a interview in Pravda) was:

"Condoleeza Rice released a coarse anti-Russian statement. This is because she is a single woman who has no children. Condoleezza Rice needs a company of soldiers. She needs to be taken to barracks where she would be satisfied. On the other hand, she can hardly be satisfied because of her age. This is a complex. The true reason of Ms. Rice's attack against Russia is very simple. Condoleezza Rice is a very cruel, offended woman who lacks men's attention. Releasing such stupid remarks gives her the feeling of being fulfilled."

From Petroleum & natural gas to “men’s attention” … how far does one have to twist correlation and causation to get to that conclusion? Is that logical? ... would you call Sec of State Rice "ridiculous"?

(Hmmm, I thought the black leather boots and long black leather coat garnered her a fair bit of male attention?)

How so from your perspective?

All of my significant mentors have been men who by societal norms would qualify as “strong, real” men, e.g., Army Ranger Colonel.

I would/do consider Condi to be the ultimate feminist. She is smart, well spoken, beautiful, in a powerful position, and I have never heard her play the woman or race card. She doesn't have to. Unlike other screeching women in the same realm. Namely, Pelosi and Mrs. Bill Clinton.;)

BTW, Condi is also trashed by those who 'embrace' feminism in this country.
