He lost my vote when he mentioned God. Church and State are supposed to be separate.

You don't plan on voting for anybody then are you?

You have a point there. Political reppression of atheists is rampant in most western countries.

If you belief what you posted above then why do you care if Fred Thompson has a belief in God?

Show me where I ever said did. Nice attempt at misdirection there:S

For the third time, I care that he thinks that a healthy society needs to be predicated upon a belief in God.

Why do you care what he thinks on the subject, since you've already said he's wrong?

I want to know why he thinks it.

I'm interested in discussing the subject, if people just state what they think and refuse to provide any form of reasoning why they think it then there can be no discussion.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

This one's off the irony scale. :D:D:D

C'mon, give him a break. I think he went to a friend's house for thanksgiving turkey and someone on the other end of the table quietly said grace for himself.

You can imagine HOW UNCOMFORTABLE he felt being at the table with that religious fanatic. I suspect, after screaming and yelling at the rogue pray-er to 'STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT" he had to go get counseling from a government approved "recovery from prayer exposure expert".

There is one, one, admitted atheist in the US congress. It was national news when he admitted it. The number of congressmen who pretend to be Christian to avoid discrimination is perhaps larger than the number of GOP congressmen pretending to be straight.

Arizona Republic

LAS VEGAS - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson suggested on Thursday that Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's lack of clarity in her answers at a Tuesday debate raises questions about her ability to handle diplomacy.

Addressing a crowd of Republican donors, the former Tennessee senator joined Clinton's Democratic opponents in seizing on her debate answer on whether she supported a plan by New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer to grant drivers' licenses to illegal immigrations.

Thompson said he opposes granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

At first, Clinton appeared to praise the plan.

Pressed later in the debate, she seemed to backtrack, saying that she didn't say it should be done.

Her campaign sought to clarify her comments on Wednesday, saying she supported the governor's effort.

"Yes, it's about Hillary, and we have our fun, but it's also about something else," Thompson said. "When our worst enemy sits down at the negotiating table and looks across the table . . . the question is, 'Who do we want on the other side of that table facing them?' "

Responding to the criticism, Clinton spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said if the New York senator is at that table, "they'll face someone who has the strength and experience to protect America's standing in the world and reverse the disastrous Bush foreign policies."

So,.. What does Fred Thompson think about America's incarceration rate?

Don't know. Haven't had a chance to ask him. I'm sure he's all for "The War on Drugs "tho. Prisons are big business don't ya know?;)

He gave the same speech in SF, but showed the same flaw himself. Of course, it's still only primary season, so you can do shit like that.

Hmm. I wonder if Fred's ongoing forgetfulness about the current existence of the USSR would hinder his ability to handle diplomacy?

I vaguely remember one instance in early October; have there been others?

I assumed that was an inadvertent slip of the tongue ... or he was tired. A couple years ago I accidently said "Czechoslovakia" at an international meeting, when I should have said the "Czech Republic." Very not good [:/]

Or is he using it metaphorically to comment on the slide away from democracy and increasing power centralization in the Kremlin that Russia has experienced under President Putin?

Reporter: What is your belief for federal civil unions to be passed?

Thompson: Soviet Union?

Reporter: No, civil union.

Thompson: Oh. No, I would not be in support of that.

=====================================

Reporter: How, as president, would you deal with Iran?

Thompson: I think we need to understand first of all the threat that Iran poses to us. They have been killing our people for some time either directly or indirectly through terrorist organizations.. . .
I’m afraid that the Soviet Union and China are not ever going to do anything that’s going to hurt them that badly but we need to ratchet those up if at all possible.

Maybe it's a subtle tactic to get those who voted for Dubya to vote for him.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I remember that. That was not a mere slip of the tongue.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Show me where I suggested he did.:S:S

As shown obviously in the quoted context, the flaw is in the lack of clarity in answers.

>He does not waffle, nor pander to special interest groups.

True. He is firmly opposed to the USSR, and will not change his stance no matter what. We need a man like him to defeat the USSR and Mussolini, and free us from the tyranny of King George.

Maybe that is what you abhor, he is consistant with a philosphy you do not like, and therefore you will say anything to dissaude people from backing him for president.

He consistently won't give a clear answer. That's my problem.

I don't really need to dissuade people - his candidacy is pretty much DOA.
