DSE 5 #4 October 25, 2007 I somewhat expected that it's automatic (muscle memory?) for Americans, this is a disappointing scene to see. Even if his mind was elsewhere...it's disappointing. Gawain, I agree. Artistic license is one thing (that I totally believe in) but the national anthem is a song that belongs to the people of this country and shouldn't be too loosely interpreted. I don't mind instrumental versions, but the garbage that ranges from Roseanne Barr to Aaron Neville. I wonder if Obama's apologists will suggest it's too overt, like wearing a flag pin? Conduct during playing During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
