lawrocket 3 #1 October 18, 2007 Listen, folks: I have been recently accused of making a threat to another poster. The threat is contained in a post, wherein I wrote: "I am not in the least bit scared to mash posters into a pulp, or to have their eyes gouged out, and their elbows broken. To have their kneecaps split, and their bodies burned away, and their limbs all hacked and mangled, all those posters. Their heads smashed in and hearts cut out, and their livesr removed, and their bowels unplugged, and their nostrils raped and their bottoms burned off and thier penises... Yes, it's what I do. Compare me to Dahmer... " Most people recognize this but as a piece from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Others do not. I must state that those who did not understand it and mistook my intentions are not correct. It was not intended as a threat. However, I must also state that these people are not necessarily wrong. Re-examine what I wrote. Viewed by itself without any context, it's pretty scary. It's the sort of thing that can get a kid kicked out of school, when context is taken away. It's actually grisly - when "Mony Python" is taken away. Are these posters "wrong" for their beliefs? SUbjective belief and objective reality are not always the same. ONe poster in particular felt that I was targeting her directly with a threat. I was not targeting her with a threat. However, is she necessarily wrong for believing it? No. She is not. We know not of her background or of her past. Veterans today cannot handle fireworks on the 4th. It rekindles memories. Certain people cannot handle certain things on the news because it brings back bad memories. Other people have their guard up for reasons that we do not know. We therefore must tread lightly lest things we write be subjectively misinterpreted. To jenfly00 - I have thought long and hard about this this afternoon, and did my best to see things from your point of view. And in doing so, I DO see how it could be read in the way you read it. For that, I apologize. To others who know me better and stuck up for me, I thank you, but it can make things worse. No, I did not intend to threaten her. Still, she may have actually subjectively felt threatened. Why don't we all cut each other a little slack. And why don't we all stop getting things so personal. p.s. - it's not the first time I've written about this subject. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2865368#2865368 - where I inadvertently offended a lady by complimenting her on her apparent youth. kallend 2,183 #6 October 19, 2007 One day my son (who had had a lot to drink at the time) said to me "one of these days I'm going to cut you into tiny little pieces". I found it very disturbing. It wasn't until a long time later that I found out it was a line from a Pink Floyd track.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. rehmwa 2 #9 October 19, 2007 I hoped to never see you knuckle under to PC whining and overreaction..... In a couple years, when your son draws a picture of a sword in art class, you can preemptively volunteer to have him expelled from grade school. She was wrong, and we all know she goes looking for reasons to insult others and have a cow about things. I suspect she knew the quote and chose to ignore that fact. Or, this is just someone with zero sense of the fanciful and humor. This is a post about you having to go unreasonably out of your way to understand another who makes zero effort to try and understand your posts. johndh1 0 #10 October 19, 2007 She really should have taken into account what you said about Dahmer and penises, and realized she was safe...unless...? Or she needs to take a reading comprehension course. This sort of thing has happened to me numerous times on here, where 200 people read it, and one makes an issue of a tongue-in-cheek or in-jest remark. Anyone who would take something like what you wrote (especially having seen your own picture as avatar) personally and seriously really needs to reach over and rip their bloody, bleeding, pumping, blood-squirting heart off their red-stained sleeve.Roll Tide Roll

Most of us develop that trouble through some experience in the past. This should not be minimized. My job is seeing things from the other person's side and looking at things from all sides.
