Thanks. Botkin's writings are fantastic! He's writing about incredibly complex systems in a very sophisticated way. He seems to be a realistic positivist -- strong belief in the ability of ecosystems to adapt, in human creativity, and in the positive application of science to solve problems through technological progress.

Until then -- if Botkin doesn't say straight out that humans have contributed 37.469872% of the demonstrable global warming, but he does say that we should refrain from activities that seem to exacerbate the warming that happens, then maybe that's his opinion.

It's kind of like saying "my blood sugar is high, but not high enough to be diabetes. Should I keep eating the way I always have, or try some smaller lifestyle changes now to avoid having to make big ones later?" Because, well, high blood sugar might not lead to diabetes. And you might end up diabetic anyway, and sometimes diet doesn't make a lot of difference.

But most of the time, changes in diet and exercise can make the rest of the process easier.
