Gawain 0 #1 October 9, 2007 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071007/ap_on_bi_ge/auto_talks_chrysler In the wake of saving themselves of a protracted strike with GM, UAW is now trying to match terms with Chrysler. What they apparently overlooked however is that Chrysler is now essentially a North American company, no longer in the asset stream of Diamler. On top of that, Chrysler is a private company now, not answerable to shareholders. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! This line caught my eye, and made me wonder if this doesn't take away from the "singleness of purpose" for UAW in this case: QuoteAlso at issue are the union's desire for job security pledges at U.S. factories and Chrysler's wish to contract out parts transportation now done by higher-wage union members, according to a person briefed on the talks. I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure that parts transport is not done by Chrysler personnel to begin with. So is the union overstepping its representation here?So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
