COPS

Recommended Posts

A good idea, implemented in a bad way. The media is taking this way out of context.
I think the Lt. here was just trying to motivate his troops, I would'nt be surprised if one of the slackers he is referring to dropped a dime to the media so they would'nt have to work.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - "Many cops just ain't too friggin' bright."

Maybe the crooks will take notice and have a burglary or rape competition.

I see this as giving cops incentive to make unwarrented arrests. I don't see this as a smart way to motivate cops.("troops"?...:S)

Please.........................,
All you "I pay your taxes", "they ain't too bright", or the secret mindset crowd, how do we measure performance of an officers duties?
The point I was trying to make was cops are very competitive people, the Lt. apparently was trying to tap that energy to improve performance. The article goes on to say there was no significant spike in arrests. There was a spike in impounded vehicles, that is a quality of life issue and should have been enforced in the first place.
The military guy in me used the term "troops", sorry if it put a few panties in a bunch.
I also said it was a bad idea from a perception point of view.

I obviously have an intellectual deficit by trying to debate points with some of you.
My signature line says it all.

just like a cop to presume something.
who said we wear panties?
is that because we're not "troops"???
:P

I for one understand the perspective a good cop has...but... I've also seen more than a fair share of cops with major attitude.

I don't think you, or most other cops are stupid. Many cops though, aren't too bright.

"I pay your taxes"?
"Quality of life"?
"Military Guy"? Were you ever in the military?
I don't wear panties, cop.

Judging by the article and your post, I assume that a cop's performance is directly tied to people breaking the law. If one day people stopped breaking the law(not likely, I know), it should make the cops look like they were being very effective. Instead, with "competitions" like this, and judging performance on #'s of arrests or impounds, If people stopped breaking the law, by your own standards, cops would suck at their jobs.

Tying job performance to #'s of arrests gives incentive to make unwarrented arrests. Period.

I hope you don't wonder about why there are so many that think LEO"s "aint too bright". Many of them have lost sight of their place in this society.

I'm not saying an officer should be measured by enforcement action. My officers get the same credit for a business check or a walking beat detail, as they do an enforcement action
The "tax" comment eludes to those who always make it a point to say they pay my salary, especially for those who are doing something wrong.

As far as quality of of life issues goes, would you want your neighborhood filled with junked cars?
If you improve ones qualilty of life, they tend to take more pride in where they live, this has a direct impact on the crime rate. Do some reading, google the "broken windows" style of community policing.

Yes, I'm (still) a military guy, have been for 25 yrs. I'm so dumb I've been able to juggle two demanding careers.............

Are you sure you don't wear panties? Your post sounded kinda whiney......geeez........lighten up, i was just kidding. From your profile it looks like you jump a canopy the size of a large pantyB|:P

Duh,
I AGREE with you, I was asking how YOU would evaluate an officers performance.

By his helpfullness and common courtesy and not being a prick just because he has a big gun.;) Actually the last two I had run ins w/ were very cool. And the ones at my 40 acre shooting range kinda look the other way about illegal weapons in Ca. Bad and good in every walk of life. Common courtesy is a two way street.

Could'nt agree more!
But enforcement action is a necessary part as well. I always try to be courteous, and expect the same of my guys.
National Accreditation has a alot to do with standards and practices. I'm fortunate to work for one of only three departments in my state to have CALEA accreditation. We use many different factors to gauge performance.

Yet you're defending a plan that does just that, passing it off as "just trying to motivate his troops"

I personally do not believe in DUI or any other checkpoints, unless it follows a major crime or some other type of investigative situation.

Good. You must be one of the good guys! Need more of ya!;)
