Is Iran itching for WWIII?

Recommended Posts

News:
"Oh, God, hasten the arrival of Imam al-Mahdi and grant him good health and victory, and make us his followers and those who attest to his rightfulness."
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad began both his address to the United Nations and his highly controversial visit to Columbia University with a prayer for the return of the Mahdi. While the media paid an enormous amount of attention to his visit, could there have been times when some missed a huge point made by Ahmadinejad?

Today, I talked with Moshe Sharon of Hebrew University and one of the world's leading experts on Islam. He pointed out that Ahmadinejad's prayer is central to Shiite end time theology. The Shiites are waiting for the return of what they call the "Mahdi" or the "Twelfth Imam." This Shiite Messiah will help conquer the world to Islam. However, it's vital to note that the Shiites - including Ahmadinejad - believe the "Mahdi's" return comes when the world is filled with bloodshed, war and chaos.

Sharon noted this Islamic prayer is code that if the "Mahdi" doesn't come quick enough, then they will help set the stage for him by inciting "bloodshed, war and chaos." This theology helps explain the motives behind Iran's fervent drive for nuclear weapons...

Sweet reading list!

I think the real question is: "Are some foolish americans itching for WWIII, when we don't even have the military support to complete the war we started in Iraq?"

got enough military resources to create bloodshed and chaos! Just not enough to occupy the ruins afterwards.

Shortly after 9/11, President Bush led a prayer service in the Washington National Cathedral. Some excerpts:

--------
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:
--------

He sure seems to be calling for an end-ot-times holy war led by Jesus, as described in Revelation.

---------
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free;
---------

Now he's calling for suicide bombings! The horror!

Or he's just leading a popular hymn. One or the other.

Did you make that up all by yourself?

No.

edit to add: I do think however that many in Iran are ready for a change in their own country. Whatever form that takes, likely some type of revolution (again) the extremists will not come out on top.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!
