The taserings will continue

The taserings will continue . . .

. . . until they taser the wrong guy and kill him.

Right now it's a "fun" way for assholes in authority to make the person cooperate, but eventually they're going to start killing a few on camera and those will end up on YouTube at which point it will hopefully become a little less funny.

Birmingham, AL's police have had a couple people die from being tasered. They suspended use of the taser for a while after one death, but as far as I know, they're back to using them.

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that over the course if its history there have been something like 70 taser deaths. My guess is that most of these have been fairly quietly dealt with, but we now live in a YouTube society where just about EVERYTHING ends up on video. Remember the 5-7 year old brat maybe a year ago that got tasered. Imagine if she had died from that. Just for being a brat?

I think because Taser™ is marketed as a non-lethal people (ok some cops) get the idea that they can use it much more freely. The problem is once they have a suspect cuffed and 5 guys are leaning on his chest, that's well beyond justifiable especially when the potential lethality of it comes into play.

The guy that was being a jerk at the Kerry speech probably did need to be carted away, but holy crap him getting tasered was totally out of line. The guy might not have been exactly cooperating, but there is no way that you can tell me he wasn't being controlled by other means. And for what; being vocal? Gimme a break.

Yep, they went over the line with that Kerry speech thing. A lot of the deaths have been attributed to people with heart problems, and yes, like you said, going over-board to control the problem.

Here's another tasering incident in Florida... Coupla FSU football players were being idiots... :D

so this makes no sense........"Hayes, 20, was charged on three misdemeanor counts: assault on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct"

If he is being charged with assault on an officer why is he only getting charged with resisting arrest WITHOUT violence? Shouldn't it be resisting arrest with violence?
...and you're in violation of your face!

The one that was tasered did not fight the officer, he merely resisted, like not letting the officers handcuff him but not kicking, biting or punching. I know it sounds weird. The other teammate is the one that punched the officer, and he has the felony charge for assault and battery.

Surratt, 21, was charged with a felony count of battery on an officer. Hayes, 20, was charged on three misdemeanor counts: assault on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct, Tallahassee police spokesman David McCranie said.

they both got assaulting an officer.....surratt got the felony version and hayes got the misdemeanor version. If they both got assaulting an officer how is it resisting arrest without violence?

blah, blah blah,
Go to the Kerry tazered kid thread for specific information.

I still want to know - If you taser a cop is that NOT assault with a deadly weapon, since a taser is not deadly? If I was a bank robber I'd be switching to tasers. Then if you are caught, it might get you a few less years in jail.[:/]
