lawrocket 3 #1 September 14, 2007 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20726137/ Turns out that the LA City Council is worried about obesity. So they want to stop new fast food restaurants from going in. Oh. They are only looking at preventing it in South Los Angeles. Aka, the poor neighborhood. Aka, the Hood. I've got BIG problems with this. First, they want to ban fast food restaurants. Um, why not offer incentives for grocery stores to move in? (I've spent some time down there and thinking about it, I can't recall EVER seeing a supermarket). My other problem is that they are limiting this to the Hood. Are they worried about the white neighborhoods? Noooooo. It's the black neighborhoods where they are looking at doing this. This si the sort fo soft bigotry that I cannot stand. They are saying, "Blacks shouldn't have so many fast-food restaurants. There are too many there for them. Thus, let us ban them." n23x 0 #2 September 14, 2007 There shouldn't be any incentives, nor any penalties. If you choose to eat mcdonalds every day, that's your perogative, and you choose to be a heap of shit (Yes, I mean that). Guess what, I can eat healthy meals every day for nearly the price I'd spend on mcdonalds or elsewhere, and I won't clog the toilet. Start realizing that for a majority of yourselves, you only have yourself to blame, and maybe, if you don't want that huge gut, you shouldn't be hitting the dingdongs so hard. Tough love, suck it up. What do you want, convienience, or health. It's not my choice, it's yours. edited: notice I'm not even addressing the bigotry which is obviously directed at a specific group: potentially being a fatass american is everyone's problem. .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC
pirana 0 #3 September 14, 2007 I've often wondered about that. Is it a tough go to do business as a big grocerty store in the inner city? Even it the relatively mundane metroplois of The Twin Cities, there is definitely a shortage of big grocers as you move inward from the middle suburbs. In the outer rings they are everywhere, so many I don't know how they all make it. In the middle suburbs they are around, but not as plentiful and a bit smaller typically. Once you get to the inner ring the difference is really noticeable. Maybe we have cause and effect mixed up. Maybe the inner city is so much more likely to be poor because they have to spend $5.50 for a gallon of milk at the local hallway of a market." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
