akarunway 1 #1 September 10, 2007 Going to buy a new toy(s). Glock Model 32. 357 Sig. Best ammo? Anybody play w/ this one? Should I stick to the 17? And the Model 18. http://remtek.com/arms/glock/model/9/18/index.htmI really want to play w/ this one. airtwardo 7 #2 September 10, 2007 .357 Sig is actually only a really hot 9mm (europellet)The bullet dia. is .355 not .357 as the name suggests, it's basically a .40 necked down to .355...(actually the case is slightly longer) The idea was to duplicate the performance of a 125 grain JHP .357 Mag, as fired from a 4 inch barrel, at one time considered the best 'man stopper' available. The problem is it often gives to much penetration, the FBI test quoted about 15 inches average in clothed ballistic gelatin. The general consensus is the .40 is a more suitable allover round because it's heavier, has less penetration and is easier to handle in regard to recoil. I don't know about the Glock, but the Sig .357 is easily converted to .40 by simply changing out the barrel and recoil spring...The full auto Glock 18 WOULD be neat to have, I've seen one fired a few years back but never got the chance to try it myself. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Not nearly as much fun to shoot. The boom, the flash...maybe has no practical purpose, but my 229 is so much more entertaining than the Beretta 96 I now only like to look at. I used to have a full-auto Colt .45. What was disconcerting was that I never knew when it would slip into full-auto. I would just be plinking away and suddenly...BZZZT...it would empty the rest of the clip. I sent it back to Colt and asked them to either add a selective-fire button, or put it back to permanent semi-auto. They chose the latter."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.

Actually, the first time it happened, I thought I had imagined it. I wasn't counting rounds, but I'm guessing there was one in the chamber and two in the clip, so it was a 3-shot burst. I was alone, so there was no one to confirm it. The second time it happened, by buddy was with me, and it happened on the first trigger pull. The muzzle probably climbed a total of 45 degrees by the last shot. You should have seen the look on my buddy's face.I took it to a local gunshop and told them the problem. Colt was really cool; They paid for shipping both ways, fixed it, cleaned it, and returned it to the shop packed up in in a new box, with NO CHARGES WHATSOEVER."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. airtwardo 7 #11 September 10, 2007 Um, you might want to clean that firing pin every few years..... Quote It was clean...it was just not very well made, the pin itself was either to fat or the pin hole in the slide was to tight...that incident was also one of the few times the gun ever fed a full mag without jamming. The gun was something of a collectors item, like I said it was a Commanding Officers model...A 'commander' bottom end and an 'officers model' top end. 500 were made in blue and 500 in stainless, mine was stainless and NEVER functioned quite right...I got rid of it. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
 akarunway 1 #12 September 10, 2007 Quotehere's some video for reference........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlZtEuy07Lk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBjUDCyDCuI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhqQubbiJUo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uYHfHQgihMThanks. They used car doors, windhields, a stack of sheet metal spaced with 35mm film canisters for penetration tests. 9mm has be shown to actually be inferior to .556NATO in CQC situations where over penetration was a concern, and it usually is.Even 00 buckshot and quite a bit smaller overpenetrates when indoors. I like 9mm but you need to choose some good ammo for it if you want better performance. Hydroshock, Corbon, Black Hills HP, you get the idea. Besides, it is nice knowing you could have a 15-20 round magazine if you choose without being awkward. My Choice would be .357Sig So given that no matter what caliber you choose, count on it coming out the other side of your intended target. There's a heck of a lot I don't know when it comes to pistol ammo. It's interesting to read of tests and studies with different ammo. I always assumed that a 45 ACP and 40 S.W. would have not only greater knock down power but that they would also out penetrate a 9 m.m. I guess I was wrong on that assumption. I remember a big shootout, the cops had years back, where they decided they were outgunned and needed a bigger pistol. Most were going to 45's or 40 S.W. I thought one of the arguments for that switch was that a 9mm. wouldn't even penetrate a windshield at times....So maybe my old 9mm isn't so puny after all....Steve1
 warpedskydiver 0 #17 September 18, 2007 Yep, always a cry for bigger etc., but shot placement is still the key.
