TRENTON, N.J. —

Eleven public officials across New Jersey were arrested Thursday morning as part of a corruption investigation, a law enforcement official said.

Democratic state Assemblymen Mims Hackett Jr. and Alfred E. Steele were among those arrested, along with Passaic Mayor Samuel Rivera. The chief of staff to Newark City Council President Mildred Crump, Keith Reid, was also arrested, the official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to upstage a formal announcement, said the arrests were related to insurance contracts for local governments.

Typically, money scandals will be Democrats because they are the Party that typically has a populist and progressive platform.

Typically, sex scandals will be Republicans because they are the party that typically puts private morality on the platform.

There are, of course, exceptions. But this is a pretty good general rule.

Corruption has no concept of Left or Right... only SELF.

Well said!!

But there are more letters from self in left than in right ... :P I dream of the days when the system was comprised of more than two parties. So different, and yet so the same.

It's not so much a matter of party as it is of POWER. They go to Washington and they're there until they retire, die or are defeated in an election. It ceases to be about their constituents and about themselves.

Strong term limits and removal of the lobbying/PAC system would go a long way toward cleaning things up....but there's no way in hell those bills would get through committee with guns being held to their heads, figuratively speaking.

Yes, the people in power that can change the system are also the ones that don't want the system to change. [:/] I am willing to bet that if someone in power did try to change the system they would be outcast by both political parties and both political parties would create distractions (as if they don't already create distractions).
