So what you have is this climate where we are now arresting and convicting on the presumption that the culprit was going to commit a crime. Because society views child predators and gays with great disdain, it's not considered that important that no crime actually happened, or was even close to being committed. I'm worried about a country with a patriot act and where tapping your feet funny in the bathroom gets you arrested. I'm slightly less worried about the lack of due process given to pedophiles, but I think that problem is better solved with parenting. Having said that, there were a few of those Dateline cases that seemed a little iffy. In some cases the guy told the girl several times to back off on the sex talk, but the 'decoy' kept chipping away, over the course of weeks of chats. To me, that is the decoy 'grooming' the supposed 'predator'.
