JohnRich 4 #1 August 27, 2007 News: Safety fears over new register of all children Senior social workers have given warning of the dangers posed by a new government register that will store the details of every child in England from next year. The database, which goes live next year, is to contain details of every one of the 11 million children in the country, listing their name, address and gender, as well as contact details for their GP, school and parents and other carers. The record will also include contacts with hospital consultants and other professionals, and could show whether the child has been the subject of a formal assessment on whether he or she needs extra help. The social workers fear that the database, containing the address, medical and school details of all under-18s, could be used to harm the children whom it is intended to protect. Confusion over who is responsible for vetting users and policing the system “may allow a situation where an abuser could be able to access ContactPoint for illegitimate purposes with limited fear of any repercussions”, Richard Stiff, said. The security fears are fuelled further by the admission that information about the children of celebrities and politicians is likely to be excluded from the system...Source: Times Online

mikkey 0 #6 August 27, 2007 OK, now I get it. SC is a place where you post whatever you can google about your obsession....Allright, more then one can play the game. I see your database and raise you mortality rate: "In the news" U.S. Life Expectancy Below That Of 41 Other Nations Life expectancy in the U.S. has reached its highest point ever, but it is exceeded by the rates in 41 other countries, the AP/Arizona Daily Star reports. The U.S. has been slipping for decades in international rankings of life expectancies as other countries are improving health care, nutrition and lifestyles, according to the AP/Daily Star. Countries that rank above the U.S. include Japan, most of Europe, Jordan and the Cayman Islands. A U.S. resident born in 2004 has a life expectancy of 77.9 years, placing the U.S. in 42nd place, down from 11th place two decades ago. Researchers say the lower U.S. ranking is attributed to the high uninsured rate among the population, in addition to rising obesity rates and racial disparities in life expectancy. Black U.S. residents have a shorter life span, at 73.3 years, than whites. The U.S. also has a high infant mortality rate compared with other industrialized nations, with 40 countries having lower infant mortality rates than the U.S. in 2004. The country with the longest life expectancy is Andorra at 83.5 years. Swaziland is last at 34.1 years, attributed to sub-Saharan Africa's high rate of HIV and AIDS, as well as famine and civil strife. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. How about: US life expectancy: -Increase it through socialized medicine -Naah, let americans die This is fun. now Well thanks to John Rich I learned yesterday that by using google for 30 minutes I have enough material to start about 10 threads "John Rich style" poo pooing the US on domestic issues if I wanted to. All this by sitting here in sunny Melbourne (it's wonderfull early spring weather right now) on the other side of the globe. Well at least I have been in the US many times and visited about 10 different States. John has never been in the UK. I think we should hold a collection for him to buy a ticket (one way?) so he can get himself arrested for gun possesion, bashed and stabbed in London and then registred in a database... I am always happy to discuss US foreign policy as it affects us outside the US. I would however normally never get into US domestic issues. I do not live there, it's not really my business, and I have not enough first hand knowledge.... if just JR would think this way.....--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. JohnRich 4 #14 August 28, 2007 QuoteAll kids in the US are registered - if the parents want a deduction they must get a SSN issued for the tyke. A social security number does not have attached to it all of the information that is being collected in England for their child registration, and which will follow them around all their lives. Just think, in only a few generations the government will have a full blown file on every single citizen, from birth, through school, their working career - all the way to death. Employer to job seeker: "I see here on the child registration records, Mr. Huxley, that you were a bit of a bully in grade school. Have you gotten over that propensity for violence yet?"Hail to the nanny government!

JohnRich 4 #16 August 28, 2007 QuoteI would however normally never get into US domestic issues. I do not live there, it's not really my business, and I have not enough first hand knowledge.... if just JR would think this way..... So when a Brave New World policy is first tried somewhere else, you don't think anyone outside that one nation should be allowed to discuss it, to find out whether such a policy is worthwhile or detrimental, and whether or not it should be implemented elsewhere? My oh my, that's rather limiting on free speech and free thought. So, according to you, we shouldn't worry about it until it reaches our own Congress. Until then, pay no mind to how it works elsewhere. Keep our heads buried in the sand, stay ignorant, and don't put any intellectual thought into it in the meantime. Got it. P.S. Shall I do a search function on your name to show all the threads in which you have commented upon U.S. domestic policies? Yeah, you're a bit disingenious on that claim. And since you're in Australia, what are you doing participating in a thread about England? Mind your own business! You shouldn't worry about what happens there, unless you return someday. Then, and only then, should you concern yourself with what's going on in England.
shropshire 0 #17 August 28, 2007 <> You have an interesting parallel in the US'. All people entering your country are finger printed and a record kept. This is not a 'privilege' afforded to US citizens visiting other countries, but I'm sure that it would heartily piss more than a few of the off if it were to happen. (.)Y(.) Sloppy titles get responses other than what you intend.
