Gangs in the Military

I was wondering what your experiences of gangs in the military is and wether you think it will come back to bite America in the bum.

I know plenty of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds join the military. Its not nice to say, but there are alot of fuck ups there because they have nowhere else to go. Some make something of themselves, some can't make the grade or hack the discipline and get out... only with a bit more knowledge.

I definately don't believe they join up specifically to lear skills to equip them for the streets.

My bigger concern is when someone who is already a pain goes to prison. They just end up hitting the gym everyday and associating with higher class scum so come out knowing a bit more and alot tougher too

That's strange.... Gangs in a very patriotic micro-society. I'm sure we were talking about this recently...

From what a friend of mine told me who is into that whole scene, a lot of the leaders in the local street gangs are telling their younger members to stay out of trouble so they're able to go into the military and are able to come back and be their trained street soldiers.

That's seems very far-fetched. We do get a few from that crowd here in the Navy(for some strange reason they seem to become engineers rather than a combat related field) but they either straighten up or booted out because they can't take the dicipline requirements, which are very high compared to their previous life.

Gangs are not a "scene" like for instance the Goths or Cowboys (unless they are wanabes and act it for the cool factor) , it's a collection of punks and/or sociopaths with bad attitudes and highly associated with drug dealing and recruited by dissolusion and a false sense of comradreship. It's rare that a true gang banger joins up, but there are a lot of people that live in the same neighborhood that the gangs exist that join up and like to pretend to be gangsters. They usually form "gangs" on aircraft carriers.
