You are not supposed to draw that in school

Recommended Posts

:o So my son started 1st grade in a public school this year. He brought home a drawing with stick people holding what looked like swords. So I asked him about it he said they were playing tag with noodles. (I'm assuming the swimming kind). Anyway one person was running away and had a gun, but it was erased. I asked him "Did they make you erase that?" He said "Yes" they told him we don't draw that in school. I am not mad but we live in America where you have a right to bear arms even stick peopleB|:D Besides it wasn't a gang member it was Indiana Jones.

You know what would be laughing your butt of on the ground laughing funny if he said this to the teacher

" A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.":o:D:D:D:D

Can you just see the look on their faces.

Sigh, groan...aaugh. Is he allowed to speak the word "gun" or is that an expulsion offence? If he makes an imaginary gun gesture with his thumb and forefinger will he be banished from the school ystem?
My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

I don't know schools are getting crazy. Little boys and big boys for that matter are designed for adventure and the fight. Not to be stuck in a office. They were made to explore. I heard this lady talking about in one school they are not even allowed to high five:o b/c it could get outta hand and someone could hurt[:/]

Playtime is essential.

I'm betting it was a Republican teacher.

what universe do you live in?

apparently not one with the same natural laws as ours: gravity, thermodynamics, death, taxes, and the left-wing 'zero tolerance policy' :|

The principal that expelled me was a liberal.. and yes, it was simply for pointing my thumb and forefinger at a classmate like a gun. (and making some joking quip about holding him hostage.. but clearly harmless)

>the 'no tolerance (no intelligence)' shtick is firmly in the liberal camp.

Hmm. Which side is trying to ban the teaching of evolution again?

'Ban'? I hear talk of them wanting ID or creationism in the curriculum WITH evolution vs having those 2 things banned. (so I'd say the left side wants to exclude thought, not the right. {{in this case}}) But schools teach all sorts of fluffy stuff. This one is just against the libs more so, so they make a big deal of it. (the reverse is certainly true in certain schools, but predominantly, it's the libs banning thought in this area)

(I'm an advocate of evolution, but acknowledging the other ideas doesn't bother me too much. Kids are smarter than we think. I don't think it matters if it's taught in sociology or science either, bucket it whereever one wants and read in all the meaning you like as a result, it's still taught content. Heck, we see a lot of opinion on all the "news" channels, but I still know it's REALLY opinion.)

BTW - there's a few votes that the teacher did the right thing.

Speak up people - or are you scared that your Orwellian mindthink will out you?

I very much doubt that the policy was made by the teacher.

School boards, elected by local residents, make zero tolerance policies.

Yes, those damn "local residents" - isn't that still not faceless enough for you?

I stand corrected, teachers are mindless automatons that only implement the policy of the school board and never try to interject their own bias into their students.

And of course, school board members are dutiful, decent people always trying to only look out for desires of the voting public. Selfless public servants with no agendas either.

Thank you for the clarity, professor.

We like it when they agree with us, we are outraged when they don't. It's really a sucky position to be in. I'm surprised people want to teach. Or coach. Or do day care., ...........

>I hear talk of them wanting ID or creationism in the curriculum WITH evolution . . .

From the Discovery Institute, the leading proponent of ID:

"Governing Goals -

* To replace materialistic explanations with the theistic understanding that nature and hurnan beings are created by God. "

I have never seen any liberals opposed to teaching creationism in a class on religion. (Not to say they don't exist, but if they do, they are in a very small minority.)

So predominantly left wingers support zero-tolerance approaches with young people, but predominantly right wingers upport capital punishment and harsher sentances for adult people.

Kinda wierd huh?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Just the facts, Ma'am.

Blaming a teacher for zero tolerance policies is like blaming a corporal for the quagmire in Iraq.

let's see

attempting brain washing from self deluded good intentions vs accountability but overboard judgmentalism from self deluded good intentions

that pretty well defines it. not wierd at all

I would venture to guess that this is just a bit of CYA for the teacher.
If the teacher decides to not notify the school system of the contents of the picture and something happens, the teacher could be in trouble.
If the teacher thinks this is a good kid that just needs a little lesson on what is appropriate and has the kid redraw the picture, everyone wins.
Sounds like a good teacher.
