If you want that you can go to the Use groups. The rules of this site are made at the sole discretion of the owners. I don't question that. My point goes to more of a societal norm that makes offensive language on certain topics completely taboo, while it's open season on others.
billvon 3,120 #29 August 22, 2007 Enough with the PA's. Some reminders, from the rules and readmes: Posts that contain material that we deem to be blatantly or unnecessarily racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, pornographic, or otherwise offensive, may be removed. While discussion of certain social and political issues may require the use of sensitive or potentially offensive terms, outside of those limited contexts the use of such terms is not allowed on this board and may be removed. . . . Also note that while we will not tolerate hate posts, there is no rule prohibiting attacks against groups or non-DZ.commers. (See here for details on what constitutes a hate post.) Organized religions, political parties, celebrities, presidents, and countries are all fair game. If such posts will upset you, do not read or post to this forum. beowulf 1 #30 August 22, 2007 Just to make sure. Were you directing towards me specifically or towards everyone? Ok I reviewed my posts and the poor baby one might be construed as a PA albeit a mild PA. Sorry I will try to avoid such posts in the future.
Andy9o8 2 #31 August 22, 2007 QuoteThis whole FSM nonsense is right up there with the racist comparison of blacks to monkeys. I think it's worse than that. I think it's like Hitler. There, I said it.
pirana 0 #32 August 22, 2007 Actually, I'm quite OK with making fun of anything. There is nothing that is sacred from humor, IMO. We'll rule the world! Age is an issue - on the series, Ned is a senior citizen. By now, he's just too old. Per our calendar, he's not yet 35, and thus ineligible. But, he sure is a dingdangdiddly decent sort of guy, ain't he? We might have to go back a ways to get someone over 35 that still can be taken seriously. What about the kid from Heavy Metal? He had a good time. More contemporary? Papa Smurf or Donald Duck. Yosemite Sam would be great in the cabinet - maybe Sec Ed. ... NCclimber 0 #39 August 23, 2007 Quote while we will not tolerate hate posts, there is no rule prohibiting attacks against "Christians and others" Quote Organized religions, political parties, celebrities, presidents, and countries are all fair game. So what you're basically saying is "We will not tolerate hate speech except where we think it's okay." How about "dirty little Jews"? Is that okay? It's okay to condemn/attack the Syrians, but using a racial slur like towelhead will get you banned? It's all so confusing.
wmw999 2,589 #40 August 23, 2007 I am a Christian. I am, in fact, the treasurer of my church. I don't see FSM as denigrating to religion. It's not, in fact, it's probably less so than making fun of the 72 virgins that we all like to poke fun at. Religion is kind of like sex, in that it's intensely personal, and makes some of us feel a little funny, and we want to know that we're doing it right. Humor about religion is a human expression. I'm not sure how you consider FSM to be an attack on you. The fact that you are a Christian doesn't mean that an attack on Christianity is a personal attack on you. There are some pretty ardent atheists on here who talk about stories and fiction. That's their deal. But why does their opinion matter to your beliefs? And who are your beliefs for? Anyway, enough ranting. If you don't like the topic, don't click on the thread. If there are posters who regularly piss you off, don't read their posts. Why let them have that much space in your head? Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. In a discussion of whether the FSM (a parody of an idea) is hatespeech/ abusive/ whatever it is you're whining about right now, using the example of directly racist speech such as 'towelhead' or 'dirty little jew' is a very poor strawman.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
