Amazon 7 #1 August 17, 2007 With the current level of acrimony here in SC here is something to ponder when you defame others. Libel & Defamation in the Information Age By Eric Eden -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Internet, where abnormal behavior is the status quo, tempers can flare in the heat of debate and word wars can last for days or even weeks. It's not uncommon for users to ridicule, harass or insult those who disagree with them. But if you damage someone's reputation by trying to embarrass them in a public forum, you could be sued for libel or defamation. After all, there's no reason to assume that the messages you send through cyberspace are immune from lawsuits. http://www.writing.upenn.edu/~afilreis/defamation-in-cyberspace.html
ryoder 1,590 #2 August 17, 2007 Old news to me. It was in 1991 when a nutcase tried to file criminal charges against me, and threatened civil suits over a posting I made asking for information about him. Years later he tried to sue 15 posters of rec.aviation.humor. Read all about it: http://www.ousterhout.net/zoom.html"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Andrewwhyte 1 #3 August 17, 2007 The area of jurisdiction will be trying in a lot of cases. If for example I post that Amazon is a poor skydiver who should not be allowed on big ways because she is a drug addict, I have said something that is both malicious and untrue. The problem is does she file the case in Washington where, arguably, the most damage is done because she lives there, in Alberta because that is where I wrote what I did, or in British Columbia because that is where the DZ.com server is located? Amazon 7 #4 August 17, 2007 I guess he is one of those if you are not with me then you are against me... does he have ties to the Republican Administration...??? It sure sounds like he would fit in just fine there with like minded fellows

It sure sounds like he would fit in just fine there with like minded fellows His politics would certainly fit in. As for the person himself there are striking differences. Even after all I knew about his background, I was caught off-guard the first time I got a threatening phone call from him. He is extremely articulate and very intimidating when you are talking to him. I believe he has raw intelligence well above average, but is completely devoid of ethics, common sense, or the ability to foresee the consequences of his actions. He is his own worst enemy."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
Zipp0 1 #6 August 17, 2007 Never let a phone call make you nervous. You never really know who you are talking to, as caller-ID is worthless(I can make any number I want show on your caller ID.... any number at all.), and if someone was serious they would sned certified mail. When I get phone calls I just ask them if it is hot down in that boiler room. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. Yea, ponder it next time you threaten me with violence, question my sexuality, or even make false statements like I "used to jump" on these forums. . . =(_8^(1)

We use aliases, and I think you would need to be able to positively identify someone or call them by name for any kind of libel to come into play. I'm sure some scumbag lawyer would try to sue anyway though. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. No Chris...I get the feeling you are one of the old school republicans.. one of those who was a member of the party when I voted for Reagan or even back further when I voted for Nixon. That party is far gone for the most part.. and notice I said THE ADMINISTRATION.... This group of incompetent neo-con chickenhawk Gordon Gecko's is a far cry of what the Republican party once stood for.
