shropshire 0 #1 July 31, 2007 About bloody time too. QuoteCouncil has approved a resolution to send a peacekeeping force to Sudan's troubled Darfur region. Up to 26,000 personnel - the world's largest peacekeeping force - will be deployed in a joint UN and African Union effort. clicky (.)Y(.) JohnRich 4 #4 August 1, 2007 As long as America isn't involved, it's okay with me. Just think of the mayhem that would result if the U.S. was part of the peacekeeping force:- More Muslim terrorists would come to hate America for foiling their will. - Prisoners would be taken and kept for long periods without trial. - A few bad-apple prison guards would make a few prisoners wear panties on their heads. - Haliburton would get more lucrative support contracts. - Someone would flush a Koran down the toilet. - Journalists would be captured and killed. - A few innocents might die in crossfire.I'm telling you, the genocide is nothing compared to what would happen if America got involved. The world is getting off easy with the deaths of a couple hundred thousand black Africans in this genocide. Don't tempt the U.S. to step in and make things worse. There's nothing going on here that few good ol' U.N. Resolutions, and some threats from France, can't solve. I predict that everyone here who initially trumpets how great an effort this is, within six months, will have nothing but negative comments to say about it, as news of improprieties arise. shropshire 0 #5 August 1, 2007 You have a point (not just America, by the way). Western troops on the ground would probably not be such a good idea, but we can still provide support in many other ways (and I think that we should). (.)Y(.) Skyrad 0 #6 August 3, 2007 Sounds good doesn't it? Except I belive it will be another toothless tiger that will stand by and watch while the people are killed and then offer a plaster or two. Time the UN found its claws. Also the troops are going to be African troops I belive. With the exception of South African troops and possibly Egyptian that almost guarentees a cluster fuck (probably quite litrally)When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. riggerrob 643 #7 August 3, 2007 Let's face it folks, the problem in Darfur started as a tribal/racial struggle, with a thick layer of religion and with a thin layer of politics laid on top. What they need are black african troops patrolling the lines, backed by a few Sandhurst-trained, black african officers, backed by a logistics train staffed by black, african-American logisitics specialists. Oh, and I suppose that it would help to send in some Egyptians, who blurr the racial distinction between black african and arab. Sending in whites - or asians - would only hopelessly complicate the issue.

Agree 100%. It seems that wherever U.N. forces go, prostitution and rape follows. You only need to do a quick search on the U.N. troops to see what crimes that they have committed. I really feel for those in Darfur but, sadly it will continue no matter who goes and try to help."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." ErricoMalatesta 0 #10 August 3, 2007 QuoteLet's face it folks, the problem in Darfur started as a tribal/racial struggle, with a thick layer of religion and with a thin layer of politics laid on top. This is complete ignorance. The problem is Darfur is not africans killing africans or arabs on horses killing africans, it is a resource power struggle by foreign powers. It is the same in EVERY part of Africa that is supposedly "genocide" and "Africans killing Africans". The DRC alone has had an estimated 8-10 million deaths since 1996. Darfur while a serious problem, is not genocide and is not the biggest humanitarian crisis on earth. Most of Africa is completely up shits creek and it is a direct result of foreign exploitation, which not only includes the governments of US, Israel and China but companies from a wide range of places including Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia and France. It is good they are doing something but it is like skipping a pebble across a lake to the reality of problems that exist within African nations. tbrown 26 #14 August 6, 2007 Hope they do a better job than they did in Rwanda or Srebrenica (sp ?). When the going got tough, the UN got going and deserted the people they were there to protect. In Bosnia, smooth tongued UN negotiators, like Yusushi Akashi, orchestrated the orderly surrender of thousands of civilians to the Serb militias - who promptly slaughtered them all, after taking time out to rape the women first. I wish the UN would hire the French Foreign Legion to go in there and do the job right the first time and every time. Those guys don't fuck around and the local African warlords and their thug armies know it (they don't like having to deal with real trained professionals who shoot back). See, there are still reasons not to hate the French. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
