NCclimber 0 #201 August 6, 2007 Quote Quote Quote Why is it silly? If a healthy person is paying more in premiums than they use in services, then where is the rest of the money going? Over the past 30 years I have paid way more in health insurance premiums than I have gotten back in actual care. So you're upset because you haven't gotten terribly sick or injured? Rubbish. You need to read more carefully before jumping to absurd conclusions. Said the pot to the kettle. Colin Powell attempted to cover up the My Lai massacre... TrophyHusband 0 #202 August 6, 2007 i have another example of why we shouldn't have government heathcare. it has just been mandated that all air force hospitals will have five squadrons. the small hospital my wife works at only has three. because the patient population has risen since it was decided how many docs/nurses/techs they are allotted, they are under manned. the head of the hospital has been trying to get that changed, but its a long and difficult process. meanwhile, he now has to create two more squadrons, the squadron commanders need to have offices as do their secretaries. there aren't enough offices for everybody, so people that are actually need an office are going to lose it to make room for more management that isn't even needed. this is the way government works. its wasteful, you are paying for it, and it doesn't do anything to improve patient care. DFWAJG 4 #203 August 7, 2007 I told her that keeping a roof over my head was far more importanted than healthcare. You think we doctors have nothing better to do than to play golf? Care whether or not our patients live or die? etc.etc.etc on the insults to docs. You are soooo right. I can't wait for my golf game, just after I've been up all night answering calls every hour. Or after my 100 hour work during internship and residency. Yeah, I 've played so much golf during my training, I have a handicap (not). and, all that money I make. the $5.83 I received from medicaid after I spent an hour and a half interviewing a patient. And how about those student loans of mine...All $246,000 that I owe Sallie Mae....And I went to a state university. Last year, I billed $75K for services, I received $25K and my overhead was $20. Five thousand dollars "profit" after breaking my ass for four years of college, MCATS, Four years of Med school, 100+ hour weeks during two internships and residencies, board exams, malpractice insurance, and the list goes on. I should have been a mechanic. They charge and get $75 per hour, and people don't hesitate to insure their cars and take proper care of them. but when it comes to taking proper care of themselves, ....exhausted....why do I even bother in this fucking profession? Maybe I should go play golf ...for a change. I sure am tired of working my ass into the ground.

freethefly 6 #205 August 7, 2007 Don't like it? There is always welding school. I fully realize that most dr.'s have a heavy load and that often their hands are tied. But, I have stuck in the medical system for 12 years and I have met a few dr.s that were shit for brains. I have, also, met quite a few very good dr.s. Those being at the V.A. in St.Louis are very fine people. The Dr.'s whom I have seen in private practice seemed to have more of a fuck you attitude. I don't know you so, I can't say either way about you. I'm not happy with the AIDS doc in Springfield whom I am to see in Sept.. I wasn't to happy with his attitude the last time I saw him. I have talked to others at the clinic and heard the same. He doesn't care to answer questions. The guy barely says a word. The same was with a private practice AIDS doc in St. Louis. I most likely will make the long drive to the V.A. in St. Louis. I was very happy with them. Hey, if you're not happy with your pay, maybe you shouldn't had gotten into the medical field. As for insurance? I had good insurance untill my job went across the border. But then I do have the V.A."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." pirana 0 #214 August 7, 2007 Definitely one large glass of whine. No biggy though. Just like any other profession, doctors are spread along the spectrum in most behaviors. Some whine, some don't. Some are nice people, kind and considerate. Some are not. Some are pompous conceited asses. Some are humble and thoughtful. It's all I could afford) 1998 Ford Ranger Credit Cards $64,000 (to pay for overhead, student loans, food, gas, etc, while I was waiting 6 months for the insurance companies to pay me 33 cents on the dollar) Sallie mae $246,000 The only pool I'm floating in is my ses-pool, because I need a new one and despite it being emptied, still overflows. So what is it Jenfly00 that you do that makes you so entitled to get paid what you get paid. No, I wasn't whining. I'm just sick and tired of everyone else bitching about how ripped off they are by doctors because doctors charge soooo much. I'm sick and tired of others bitching about the cost of health care, when they don't care for themselves. I cringe everytime I hear "Well, I'd use the patch to quit smoking but insurance doesn't cover it." Of course insurance doesn't cover cigarettes either. But that doesn't stop the smoker from buying them. Would I want a government healthcare system? No, we already have one. It's called Medicare and Medicaid. And both suck for patients and for providers. If you don't want to pay for doctors, then don't charge for medical school, and don't work interns/residents longer than 40 hours per week (including call). Lindsey 0 #225 August 9, 2007 My comments were not concerning your hard work, nor your compassion ...just the whining about financial hardship when you have more expensive toys and live better than the vast majority of Americans! My 'venom' would have directed toward anyone who right out of a basic internship, felt they were sufficiently competent to run an ER. First of all, I haven't complained about financial hardships. I don't know where you're getting that. Second, Nobody's competent right out of internship to run an ER. It's scary as hell. But in these little critical access hospitals out in the boondocks, there's nobody else. Residents are the best they have access to. Having a licensed resident available is better than having no physician at all within 60 miles. I don't need YOUR venom to feel the weight of someone dying or having a bad outcome because in an critical emergency I just wasn't good enough. Had they been closer to a larger hospital with physicians with more training they probably would've done better. Your little snide comments don't even make a tiny dent in my feelings about that. But keep on...it's obviously your way. When recently-licensed residents cover small, rural ERs they're not taking the place of someone more qualified. We're the only ones willing to cover the shifts. It's not like highly-trained ER docs are beating down the doors to cover these little places. MOST people are thankful to have someone. There are SOME people who are gonna bitch about ya' no matter what you do (which is the type of responses I've come to expect from you). My aim is to be more helpful than harmful (which I completely believe that I am), and that the experience makes me a better physician over the years, which I think it's doing. linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
