rhys 0 #28 July 26, 2007 QuoteSo, I was thinking, have any of you met a DZ.commer whom you didn't like online, and therefore let it affect your demeanor with them in real life? No way, every body gets a clean slate when I meet them. Some people are simply being cheeky or are fishing for a reply (positive or negative) on the internet. In real life people tend to be much more reserved with what they say and everyone has the right to think their own way. eg. I think religon is the cause of many of the worlds problems but I cannot and do not blame individuals for these problems. I have friends that are christian and a housemate that is a Muslim.... We all get on like a house on fire and have a good laugh together. The speakers corner is generally about debate and we all pull out the big guns every now and then. The world is too small to hold grudges with people with different opinions."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Muenkel 0 #30 July 26, 2007 For the most part, no. OTOH, after several thousand posts, you generally get an idea of the kind of person someone is. Based on that, there are a couple I can live without ever meeting and it is not based on their political/religious/etc. views. There's no one here I would ever be rude to, just a couple that I don't think I'd hit it off with. To word it better, if I met the couple of people I'm thinking about I would certainly be friendly, but I would keep my guard up. juanesky 0 #32 July 27, 2007 I don't think it will be a problem, met a few I have had disagreeing points of view, and was not a problem. Yet I would vote for Billvon or Rewhma if they ever decide to get on the pres ticket. rhys 0 #33 July 27, 2007 I can see eye to eye with anyone even if we have a difference of opinion on other matters. That is my philosiphy, everyone should stand up for what they beleive in but at the same time everyone should be able to understand that not everyone is the same. as long as nobody is getting hurt then anyone should be able to believe in what they want. Most importantly people should be able to change thier beleifs depending on what they have learned. Those that stick to thier guns when they know better are the ones theat lose sleep at night! Squeak 17 #34 July 27, 2007 QuoteI was just thinking about it. I've met a few folks from DZ.com, not so many that I feel like "Norm" in Cheers... Anyway, I've met BillVon and Quade, and we pretty much have completely opposite views on a lot of things, yet that didn't bleed into our real life dealings. So, I was thinking, have any of you met a DZ.commer whom you didn't like online, and therefore let it affect your demeanor with them in real life? THEN, I thought, ...never mind... I treat people as I meet them, however there are a couple of people here, whos online personality would be very deifficult for me to take, if they mirror it in personYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
pirana 0 #35 July 27, 2007 Quotei havent met anybody from here yet. but nonetheless, if you like someone in real life, just as a person, and you have differing views on an issue, do you turn away? i mean, if the bloke or the chick is just a pure ass.. but even them can be alright given the right circumstances.. i wouldnt really want to treat people any different than i do online, so, the answer i guess is a no! How do you know for sure? There's a couple at our DZ that I did not know were in here until long after I had joined. The one thing that does bother me a bit is that some people for some reason (the anonymity I guess) find it fun or easy or entertaining to be jerks online. I'm thinking maybe some small portion are truly jerks, but most have to be putting on for us. How could you be that rude in person and have even one single friend? (Unless they are from NYC). I don't turn away from many people. Maybe just the ones who express any of the evil -ism's to an extreme (racism, sexism, etc). I can understand how stuff like that can get deeply engrained culturally; especially if you get indoctrinated early in life it may be very tough to fully shake. But I really can't engage honestly with someone that treats others badly - so why engage with them at all? I'd also want to be your Baseball Commissioner. One more hat I could take on would be Ambassador to Cuba.
