US Navy released Al Qaeda terrorist

Recommended Posts

The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in the Arabian Sea.

In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody.

The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy.

It's actually a capture from a movie taken back in the 1970s, IIRC. It's been around a long time.

I've also seen film of a pair of deck boots being shot off the cat. Disposing of one's footwear in a colorful manner is a longstanding tradition in the Army, Air Force and Navy, and sometimes occurs when an individual leaves a unit, but more often when the soldier/sailor/airman leaves the service itself. It's a symbolic gesture, and is usually accomplished by throwing said footwear over a telephone line or into a tree.

Some of the kewlest footage I ever saw while working for the USN was of a C-130 landing and taking off from a carrier.

The hanging up the boots is where the term "hanging it up"...denoting quitting a job or something.
Just a little something I learned in the Navy.
There was a telephone pole behind the outgoing units barracks that had boondockers nailed all over it. Some of them were pretty old looking.

Read the writeup. On one flight they managed to land and take off with no rollback and plenty of room to spare, no arrestor hook and no catapult, and I think that may be the flight on that video, if not it's close. Tha Navy still didn't go for it.

And with such a heavy payload too!

I mean, for that airplane to be able to carry the enormous brass balls of the crew.......:D
