billvon 3,132 #27 July 10, 2007 >Equally as much as Gerry Studds was a child molester . . . ?? Really? Was he convicted of such a crime? That's news to me. All I ever heard about was his relationship with a 17 year old page (legal age of consent was 16) but I surely could have missed something. He was censured for that since the house figured it showed a breach of duty. >the difference is that the Repubs *do* make their people resign . . . ?? The republican who was reprimanded for his relationship with a 17 year old page the same time (Crane) won the republican primary a year later. Apparently repubs of the time DID approve of such things. (Which isn't so strange; no crime had been committed.)
mnealtx 0 #28 July 10, 2007 QuoteQuote Equally as much as Gerry Studds was a child molester before and during his run in Congress - the difference is that the Repubs *do* make their people resign, while the Dems applaud theirs when they refuse to. Gonzales has been caught lying and hasn't resigned. Cheney has been caught lying and hasn't resigned. Rumsfeld was caught lying and didn't resign. It remains to be seen what the party will make Vetter will do, doesn't it? Can't find an example from Congress, so you go to the executive? dorbie 0 #31 July 10, 2007 These vocal puritanical types seem to be caught in compromising positions with enough regularity to make one suspect that it's an indicator for deviance. The guy's a stinking hypocrite of the lowest kind. If he wants to get caught in a hooker's little black book that's his business but he should STFU when it comes to pronouncements on sin & family values. Given his track record on the aforementioned issues he should be disqualified from public office on the grounds that he's just too much of a skunk even amongst skunks. There's something uniquely vile about someone who does this and then mentions God, sin & family and the forgiveness he's already received in an ass covering apology after being caught red handed. Shame on Louisiana if the reelect the douche.
billvon 3,132 #32 July 10, 2007 >Again, typical Lib double standards...fine for me but not for thee. That is a perfect description of _both_ parties, actually. Republicans are for family values and law and order - unless it's one of their own. Then they'll defend a man convicted of perjury, and say how it's horrible - HORRIBLE! - that people are destroying this good, upstanding citizen. Democrats are always talking about how they're the party of the middle class and thus not part of K street - until a democratic rep is found with $100K in his freezer. Then it's "innocent until proven guilty."
