Is this absolutely one of the most ridiculous things you've ever heard? Should this convicted killer be allowed a sex change operation at taxpayer expense? Should he be allowed one at all while in prison? Why is a judge even hearing this? I can't imagine anyone would be FOR him getting this operation at taxpayer expense... or at ALL while in prison. Seems like he shoulda thought about that before killing someone. Jackass.

I cant understand the attitude that because people are in prison they deserve bad treatment, it just seems so medieval. People make jokes about prison rape etc. they are not funny.

Yes, some of these people have done horrific things and have had their liberty denied for a reason. However we need to put ourselves above them. Denying them proper medical care and ignoring their abuse just seems wrong.

If this person really does have a defined medical condition that requires surgery do you not agree that it should happen? Just because I don't understand it doesn't mean that it should not happen. The reasoning to stop it because it would a security nightmare is totally secondary.

Should inmates get facelifts because looking saggy is damaging their mental health? It is not a question of whether they deserve to be made a woman. The fact is qualified medical people have said that gender re-assignment should be carried out. The authorities have a duty of care to provide medical treatment for this person. Therefore it should be carried out.

If the guy needs heart surgery, or his appendix removed, or even a root canal then fine.

With the amount of honest hard working citizens who cannot afford the essentials on their after tax income, I find it offensive that the tax dollars we take from these low income workers will pay for this guys luxury surgery. What next, liposuction, nose jobs?

None of what you guys has any reason or logic behind it. You all seem to come from a point of retribution and hate. This person is scum, no doubt, but a judge has ruled that the surgery should be carried out, although he failed to order it done due, I would imagine, due to public sentiment such as you have demonstrated. Its funny how you guys are all about law and order apart from when it comes to rapists/murders and Scooter Libby.

Life is not fair, but the thing about being human, to me at least, is to strive as much as possible to make it so. Thats why you have laws and judges rather than lynch mobs and lynchings.

If you are going to do that you have to be fair to everyone that includes the person mentioned.

As for honest hard working people not being able to afford decent health care that is a different issue. I suggest you go see or download Sicko and find that not every country has a health system such as yours.

Why is it hatred to suggest that he should not be afforded treatment that the average joe on the street would not get. I acknoeldged that he should get surgury if his life depended on it or if his physical health was at stake or he was in great physical pain. Because I do not feel that luxury surgery should be afforded to him I am full of hate?

I am not trying to deny him the basics of life. There are many on low incomes who cannot afford sex changes because they cannot afford the insurance. I acknowledge that a guy in prison is not going to be able to buy health insurance so the state needs to pick up the tab, but in the interest of decency he should not be afforded cosmetic surgery on the taxpayers bill. Beying a guy makes him depressed; the state provided prison psychiatrists who can help him with his depression. What if being fat or ugly makes prisoners depressed. Do we then have to provide liposuction and facelifts while decent hard working people aften cannot afford life saving surgery. No thats obscene.
