Ann Coulter's comments help Edwards campaign raise money

Recommended Posts

Man, I remember back when I liked Coulter. Now I agree with you that she's just a shock jock. However, I find it funny how often the word "hate" is thrown around to label someone's comments. People who reflexively respond to meaningless, stupid jabs from pundits (on either side) with "Wah, hate speech!" are wusses. I'm glad Edwards is making good use of her comments, though.

edit: grammar
Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful.

Well, she is a lot better looking than Rosie O'Donnell, but she's still a bitch...

I think they are both ugly women. Why? Because mean people are ugly.

Now if only I could stop being so ugly. :)

Awe, c'mon. What you really want is a threesome with those two firebrands. Admit it. You want 'em both.... bad!

Go ahead. Get it off your chest. You know you want to.

My opinion about Ann Coulter:

She's just a political shock jock.

I take Coulter's opinions on politics about as seriously as I take Howard Stern's opinions on lesbians.

:P

It is interesting to see however what she said about Edwards, his son and exploting that loss. Google it, whe is right on the money about this one anyway.

Quite right!

Her interview on O'Reilly was very interesting.

Lefties are told that Rush and Coulter are bigots, liars, blah, blah, and they gather it in and spew it back out. To think it is the right that are said to be the 'mind numbed robots'. :D

For some strange reason, the Mr. and Mrs. Edwards don't want to be interviewed on O'Reilly to talk about hate speech in the political dialogue and such. It would seem that Chris Matthews and Larry King are less threatening. They might actually get a tough question regarding their previous actions and statements, and that just doesn't fit into their plan. :D

Does the show that Ann speaks on, have callers call in? I would LOVE to see someone call in and call her a CUNT on live TV... no warning, no time to bleep it out. See her reaction...:ph34r::ph34r:

Perhaps it would be equally for funny for Mrs. Edwards to be called a cunt, on live TV, to see her reaction.

I took your advice and found this:

As I was walking to the set, minutes before airtime, it was casually mentioned to me that Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, might call in.

For the first time in recorded history, the show's host did not interrupt a guest, but let Elizabeth Edwards ramble on and on, allowing her to browbeat me for being mean to her husband. (This delicate flower is very sensitive to rough words, having hired the Edwards' campaign staffer who wrote this: "What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit"?)...

Here is my full sentence on "Good Morning America," which the media deceptively truncated, referring to a joke I told about Edwards six months ago that made liberals cry: "But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack — so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

The usual nut Web sites posted a zillion denunciations of my appearance on "Good Morning America" immediately after I appeared Monday morning. But it didn't occur to any of them to simply lie about what I had said. No, it took them nearly 36 hours to concoct a version of that quote that included the Edwards part, but not the Maher part, or what English language speakers call: "the point."...

"Edwards had told Kerry he was going to share a story with him that he'd never told anyone else — that after his son Wade had been killed etc., etc....... Kerry was stunned, not moved, because, as he told me later, Edwards had recounted the same exact story to him, almost in the exact same words, a year or two before — and with the same preface, that he'd never shared the memory with anyone else. Kerry said he found it chilling, and he decided he couldn't pick Edwards unless he met with him again."

Apparently every time Edwards began a story about his dead son with "I've never told anyone this before," everyone on the campaign could lip-sync the story with him....

Manifestly, I was not making fun of their son's death; I was making fun of John Edwards' incredibly creepy habit of invoking his son's tragic death to advance his political career — a practice so repellant, it even made John Kerry queasy.

I'm a little tired of losers trying to raise campaign cash or TV ratings off of my coattails, particularly when they use their afflictions or bereavement schedules to try to silence the opposition. From now on, I'm attacking only serious presidential candidates, like Dennis Kucinich.

Interesting what effect context has on how a comment is understood.

But why does she need to make any statements like that at all? If she wouldn't personally attack people then she wouldn't be "misquoted" or "taken out of context" now would she? Why not just offer some political opinion or insight that is issue oriented? Probably because she doesn't have much to offer on those issues. Plenty of other political pundits are able to make a good living through respectful dialog. Her talent lies in spewing disrespect and hate. She's good at it and the shit storms that she stirs up are the reasons that she is invited to speak in the first place. It riles up both her base and her opposition and it sells. It's like broadcasting a train wreck of a train on the way to a nudist colony. Guaranteed ratings.

I don't agree with your perspective that it is an attack. When people say things, especially in the political arena, everything that is said is open to critque. Except, there are those, and I think Edwards is one of them, that pick topics and issues that they and the media say are off limits. This is one of those cases, Edwards said early on that he did not want his son's death politicized, yet he comments on it regularly and wrote a bood trying to cash in on the sympothy factor.

I also get tired of complaints calling some one mean and mean spririted. She is calling these things for what they are. Some just can't handle that cause they have been handled with fur gloves for so long they do not expect it.

If Ann is so bad why was Kerry and Edwards not called out on Cheany'e daughter? The only reason they (and they are the ones that brought it up, not Cheany) was to try and split him from a base that has issues with homosexuallity.

Double standard? Hypocitical? You tell me.

I missed it, did Kerry or Edwards say that Cheney's kids should die or did they just bring up the homosexuality issue? In my opinion, Coulter can bring up any issue that she wants to talk about and comment on it. I just don't think she has to use language that makes her look like a mean spirited, hateful bitch. Personally, I think that when people stoop to yelling, calling people names and spewing hatred that it's a good sign that they're trying to compensate for a weak argument.
Which brings me back to my original assertion. She has little more to offer than weak arguments so she does what she does and gets rewarded for it.
