SpeedRacer 1 #1 June 25, 2007 $54 Million Pants Lawsuit Tossed Out A Washington, D-C, judge has ruled against a man who tried to take a dry cleaner to the cleaners for losing a pair of his pants. Roy Pearson had initially sued Custom Cleaners for $67-million, claiming that the business violated the city's Consumer Protection Act by failing to live up to the expectations of the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign that was once placed in the store window. He later modified his lawsuit, bringing his claim down to $54-million. The judge found he didn't have a pants leg to stand on -- and instead ordered Pearson to pay up. He has to pay the dry cleaner's court costs. Pearson claimed the cleaner lost a pair of suit trousers and later tried to return a pair that wasn't his. I once had a dry-cleaner lose all my dress shirts. After several weeks of getting the run-around, I did some homework on small-claims court. Then I called the cleaners and gave them the option of having a reimbursement check ready for me in an hour, or seeing me in small-claims court. They opted for the former.
