American 'crazies' !!!

Recommended Posts

The writer doesn't make any case at all as to advocating a different policy from the incoming Prime Minister Brown. It sums up a bunch of US bashing with a question: "...can he still allow himself to remain publicly allied to a US administration..."

What this twit of a writer apparently overlooks is that the US has borne the brunt of the image bashing in this war. The image of the UK, Poland, Korea, and the 30-odd other nations involved in Iraq have not suffered. In fact, the US has ensured this by not maintaining the reality of how many countries are involved with NATO efforts in Afghanistan, and coalition forces in Iraq.

The writer also is overlooking the fact that the US administration will be changing in January 2009, and unless it's an Obama administration, US foreign policy as it relates to GWOT is not going to significantly change.

'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I think too many serious issues are raised to prevent classifying this into the 'America-bashing recycle-bin', such as:

"The State Department had prepared to send hundreds of diplomats and private sector construction experts with Arab-language skills and Middle East experience to help to rebuild Iraq. But less than a month before the war started, all these people were “stood down” on orders from Mr Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, as their Middle East experience would bias them towards an “Islamist” and defeatist worldview. The peremptory disbandment of the Iraqi Army and the Baath party, now regarded as the worst mistake of the immediate postwar period, was decided at the “highest level” in Washington and was then imposed against the advice of the US military governor Jay Garner, who quickly understood the anarchy that this would unleash."

I'm surprised you assert that UK image hasn't suffered - of course it has, as per the other countries. Naturally America will take the brunt - that goes without saying.

The writer isn't overlooking a change of US administration - he's flapping over what might happen prior!;)

'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

I appreciate your point, but the writer's column is antithetical to how politics works, and he himself writes his own "out" by noting a "public" detachment from the US.

It's a poor attempt to be dichotomic.
