Guest #1 June 16, 2007 See attachment - it's today's CNN front page. The edumacation system is pretty poor these days. I'm glad I learned to read and write and do simple arithmetic back when it was actually worth something. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Not those that didn't learn it...that or it's the keyboard's fault. Guns kill people, pencils cause misspellings -- jeez, don't you know anything? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Billvon's idea to require kids to pray in school is a big step backwards and not compatible with today's society as it might have been even 40 or 50 years ago.l ... billvon 3,107 #16 June 18, 2007 ?How about if we just go back to teaching the core curriculum? You godless atheist you! School isn't for learning, it's to ensure that students get a good moral background to face the rigors of the world today - and that means prayer! (BTW to be serious for a second, the three R's are a good basis to start from, but are sort of inadequate today for even primary education.)

I don't necessarily disagree (about the 3 R's) ... but I also note the declining SAT scores, graduating seniors failing standardized tests that a sixth-grader should be able to pass, college freshmen having to take remedial classes... it's discouraging. As an example... check out the photo here. That's not a parent...that's one of the STUDENTS.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
