SkyChimp 0 #1 May 17, 2007 Thank you Washington for putting 12 million illegal immigrants on the path to amnesty....NOT! Why reward invasion, and lawbreaking? The bill also promises to "toughen up" on the boarder and interior security. What is there to "toughen up" on when you waive the magic wand and grant citizenship? A complete disregard for current federal laws. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/17/senate.immigration/index.html Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?! quade 4 #2 May 17, 2007 It's because there is no other viable option. EVERYONE agrees it's not the ideal solution, but what would be? Rounding up and deporting 12 MILLION people? If you even vaguely think that's possible, my guess is that you probably can't conceive of how many people that actually is. (Just as a "test", picture in your mind how "big" a pile of 12,000,000 pennies is or how much it might weigh . . . go ahead . . . now go do some actual math and see how close you were . . . you can even Google it, I'll wait.) This is not a magic wand that grants citizenship. It documents them, makes them pay a fine (rather hefty fine too by illegal wage standards) and only then puts them on a path to -eventual- citizenship. Fairly reasonable really.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

SkyChimp 0 #4 May 17, 2007 A round up over night is not feasible, but locking down the boarders and deporting illegals over a period of time can be. I respect your view point but I still think the bill isn't the solution.I guess we'll see what happens now. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?! SkyChimp 0 #5 May 17, 2007 It's more than viable narci. There are a lot of U.S. citizens that think legal immigrants in our country should be here (including myself), and that illegal immigrants should not. Lets take you for example, you're a permanent resident and have every right to be here since you aren't here illegally. I highly doubt you smuggled yourself on an orange truck. If an immigrant wants citizenship then they need to work for it. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?! Andrewwhyte 1 #6 May 17, 2007 Fuck! I was there and renting a place in Casa Grande on Jan 1. If I was still there I could get a Z Visa for 5 grand, Fuck! The nearest estimate to get a visa legally is way higher than that.
Nightingale 0 #7 May 17, 2007 We've got a pretty damn big border. Unless you plan on pulling all the troops out of Iraq and deploying them along the border, I'm not sure how you're going to manage a "lockdown".
sundevil777 102 #8 May 17, 2007 The illegal immigrants don't need to be rounded up and deported. Whatever it takes so that it is very risky, and very difficult for employers to hire illegals is the way to handle it. The illegals will largely have to leave on their own, without costing nearly so much as other changes that would not be as effective. This would probably require a new form of national identification. To argue that keeping the price of services and products low is a reason to allow illegals to continue working is to advocate for a permanent, victimized underclass.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
narcimund 0 #9 May 17, 2007 QuoteLets take you for example Just a minor correction. I LEFT the united states. I'm a permanent resident of Canada. But the point is largely irrelevant. I did follow all the rules, filled out mountains of beaurocratic forms, paid many thousands of dollars, and revealed intimate details of my history to the authorities who can now use and abuse that information as it sees fit. Of course I trust the canadian government is at least partially guided by decency and respect. If I were trying to immigrate into the U.S., I'd be scared to death to open my life up to that bloodthirsty government. Nightingale 0 #11 May 17, 2007 I think we need to abolish the minimum wage, and then set a high fine for hiring undocumented immigrants. Then, we've removed the incentive for hiring undocumented people under the table, AND established a heavy consequence for doing so.

Heck, we could solve all our energy problems in 5 years for less money than the Iraq war has taken so far. But that would require a change to business as usual, and we no longer have the vision to make such a change.
