An Org I have Been Following. A wake up call for me?

This group has made a major change in thier opoinions recently. Some of what they post is distrubing to me and will have some saying "see, I told you so', and maybe rightfully so.

In any event I am interested in seeing what kind of debate this kindles. It will take some time to go through it all and it is out of character for me so be warned.

What do they mean by giving a "Proper response" to Bin Laden's messages? A formal reply? Acting on his suggestions?

I am a little unclear to that point but I think it comes from the same perspective that a government is acountable to at least, it's people. If his (OB) has legitimate points then the people should have been informed by its media if not the government to be addressed.

I may be off. I went through some of it kind of fast. I need to go through some of the white papers again too.

To be honest, I am lazy, there are many on this site who are very good at detail. I am hoping for some help from those here that are good at it and like doing that resarch more than I.

This is serious stuff. Regardless of how I am viewed on this site I feel the gov is accountable to the people. Right now I think that is slipping some.

I generally find it helpful to ask one question when something happens.
"Why?"
Then I usually try to find out but the sad thing is that you have to actively go get the information. What you get from the media is typically the repetition of a talking point, such as "they hate freedom". Usually those replies don't pass the "does that make any sense" test. Going outside the headlines and looking at the other point of view from a different source is helpful before you decide how you feel about an issue.
OBL's "Open Letter to America" has been posted on the web for years. Sadly, most of America hasn't read it.

As for the debate that this is likely to kindle, my cynical side predicts that it start out with a pro Israel talking point defense and probably not elevate beyond that. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I'm working my way through it, but thought I'd mention that the next book I read will be Messages To The World: Statements From Osama Bin Laden, already referenced several times in the article. My girlfriend is reading it now as a text in her history of terrorism class. Not having heard of it and living in a very conservative area, I've suggested she throw something over it when we park at the store/mall etc, lest people get the wrong idea by the title and decide her pinko commie ass needs some proper American patriotism beaten into it. That such a concern is at least somewhat valid is a sad testament about our society.

The link you provided did a nice job of pointing out a number of important issues. First of which in my opinion is reevaluating our relationship with Israel. Our Congress and our media need to stand up to the pro-Israel lobby. I'm not talking about being antagonistic or inflammatory. All I want is for the US media to broadcast what is actually going on in Israel and Palestine. Fair and balanced (the real stuff, not the misnomer) reporting is all I ask. The rest would sort itself out.
