AFFI 0 #2 April 23, 2007 Plane Crashes Off Florida Keys Sunday, April 22, 2007 6:43:45 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recovery crews continue to search for debris, following Friday's small crash off the Florida Keys. Three people, including a Eustis man, are believed dead. So far, only two bodies have been recovered. They have not yet been identified. Authorities says the single-engine Cessna registered to 56-year-old Mark Chase had just left Key West on its way to Leesburg when it hit a wire on a government blimp and crashed. One of Chase's close friends told News 13 he was shocked by the crash, because he was under the impression the plane would not be flying that day. "Wednesday night, he asked me to take his calls Thursday and Friday because he was going to be out going to an air show,” BJ Eakin said. “I asked him was he taking his plane, and he said no. That he didn't have enough room at the air show for his plane. So he was going to take a bus with his wife and her cousin." The plane then crashed in about two feet of water. The investigation into what happened is ongoing.Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
quade 4 #3 April 23, 2007 Your title and the wording "Causes plane crash" are misleading. The cause of the crash wouldn't be the cable running into the plane but the plane running into the cable. The blimps are well marked on maps and not exactly in high traffic areas.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Zipp0 1 #7 April 23, 2007 I didn't know we were still using blimps. How many of these are in service around the USA? Who operates these blimps? And if they are marked on maps, couldn't they be avoided to an extent? -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. DUDE.. aint that the truth....Their Idea of flying IFR is..... I Follow Roads.... they blow right thru our DZ along Interstate 5. We even have more intersting aircraft there daily as well. During the week we are in the landing pattern for NAS Whidby... I reallllly want to do a speed dive on some FA-18's and pull out into a track and fly formation with them... with a big grin on my face as they fly right over our DZ at 6000'
itllclear 1 #10 April 23, 2007 QuoteAnd if they are marked on maps, couldn't they be avoided to an extent? Because someone has to open the chart and use it. Also, note that the Restricted Area warnings are a lot bigger than the little parachute symbol to the southwest of it. As jumpers, we have to be aware that we share the airspace with all other traffic. We do not own it. There have been a number of threads on this issue. On the other hand a Restricted Area is restricted, and pilots (even military on a mission) need the approval from the controlling agency to enter it."Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."

Along the Florida coast, and along the southwest border with Mexico, that I have personally seen.
