Looking for a small carry weapon...

You dont need a gun. According to a lot of the posters on these forums a knife or a bat is equally as deadly, just get one of those. They're a lot less expensive too.

This post just goes to show how little you know and do not care to learn. I find it very funny that you have claimed to not know about guns, but think make comments about how bad they are.

I would rather face an idiot with a gun, than an expert with a knife anyday.

I knew that would get a rise out of at least one of you. It worked.

If you're going to carry, you should cary enough to reload at least one full time. (e.g. a speed loader or enough on a strip to refill a cylinder, or at least one spare magazine)

It is about playing the odds. Odds are I will never need a gun at all, much less pull it out, even less firing it, even less than that being engaged in a prolonged gun fight.

I would be safer if I carried my AR-15 with a standard combat load, riot shotgun, and a glock .40 backup in a leg holster.....But I *feel* that a small gun with the right load will be enough for 99% of the problems I could ever encounter.

Well if all you are doing is trolling, sure it worked. But your posts continue to smack of arrogance when you talk about a subject when you have admitted you know nothing about the subject.

So if all you are doing is trying to start shit...That also goes to show your emotional maturity.

Dont try to talk like you know me buddy. You know nothing about who I am or about my emotional maturity, so dont try to judge people through an internet forum. I was trying to regurgitate a common argument of your side of the debate as a half joke/half truth. Take it easy.

just have some fun back at him. It's been made very clear (by posts and IMs) that he is a very thin skinned troll.

You post with the INTENT of pissing people off. That is called trolling and it is a sign of immaturity.

You make strong statements about things you ADMIT to know nothing about:
Quote

I dont know much about guns and I will be the first to admit it ....I dont know much about the Brady Campaign at all. In fact I had only really ever heard of it once or twice before and never really looked into it.

You make emotional attacks on people who disagree with you:
Quote

Why dont you and Warpedskydiver go on a hunting trip to Africa and never come back

Thats not really mature either.

So your trolling, attacking, and snap judgements not based on any information make you seem really immature.

Maybe you should not troll so much if you want to be taken easy?

Their are many pistols out there that are small and cheap. But note that you get what you pay for as far as being up to par in reliablity and functions.
These cheap pistols are just that chaep. Easy to make and all. Usually called relying on springs and such to move this firing pin, ejector to fire. so this they usually phyically do not have a external hammer system and the safeties are usually harder to move and are small, just as the pistol is.

So as far as a personal recommendation its hard to say what you are after but watch out for these cheap pistols. If you do purchase one besure to talk with a gunsmith or so on its operations (things that they can tell you about it not just point and shoot) and of course have it safety inspected .....

Just my two cents on this area,.

I've got a SA XD40 sub, but it's still a bit big for some situations, so I'm looking for something a bit smaller in either .32 or .380, leaning towards .380.

Any of you gun people have any recommendations for something that's reliable and not too expensive?

Kel-Tec P3AT .380. Decent trigger. No slide lock. Smaller than a lot of .25s. Not expensive (< $300)

I ended up buying one of those today. I put 100rds through it and I like it so far, but I've got alot more practice to do with it.

I still say carrying a few small ill-tempered kittens is a good option for self-defence.

Now that's just plain cruel. I mean, if somebody tries to harm you they may deserve to get shot, but death by a thousand cuts is going too far. ;) B|
The again, whenever you "carried" you would always have a snack handy. :P

Practice what you will do, that is what over comes stress. No different than what you do in skydiving by dirt diving or practicing reserve procedures. The fact that you deal with adrenaline on a regular basis gives you a slight edge in a stressful situation, but you do what you practice.

I picked up the Kel-Tec P3AT last friday, just had to post a few pictures....

The other gun next to the Kel-Tec is my XD40 s/c.

Nice....I may get one once I move out of the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Illinois.
Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW.

I first read that and though "Holy Heck, somebody chambered a pistol for the H&H." Then reality came crashing in and I realized you meant 357.
(at least I realized it before I saw the next sentence, so I don't feel too 'do-dee-doooo'):P

Cheap is bad, m'kay. ;)

But let's remember than low priced doesn't always mean cheap. Just look to Glocks. They run about half the price of a lot of respectable autos, and their reliability is legendary.

Here I'm not following what you were getting at. At you saying that any pistols that are 'striker fired' will have problems? Glocks and XDs would seem to disprove that. Also, my little Taurus 650 CIA has no external hammer, but it has a fully moving hammer enclosed in the frame; it's just covered by a hump-back.

Maybe some examples of what you mean could help me sort it out.

Congratulations. Let us know how reliability and comfort go as you get more accustomed to the gun.

I can't wait until the next gun show comes to town. I've got an education incentive reward coming from work and a good sized refund along with it. Oh, that last day is going to be nice. B|

The Japanese used to use Pekinese dogs as weapons.

The would stash them in the sleeves of their kimonos and fling them towards their enemies at will.

The startled dog would, by nature, snarl and bite onto anything in its path.

Your throat would be torn apart in a matter of seconds.
