Positive commentary on US soilders in Iraq

Recommended Posts

Hey that's good to go!

I spent nearly a year in Iraq and my biggest gripe about US media is they did not portray the HUGE humanitarian relief effort we provided after the fall of the regime.

I remember two days after the fall of the Baathe Party and the regime we conducted a mechanized patrol through the streets of Baghdad, it felt more like a parade than a patrol. They were playing music in the streets for us. People were running around outside waving, blowing us kisses, and thanking us for what we did.

War is an ugly thing and I wish it never had to happen but it is a damn shame that the media will, on majority, only report the bad that goes on.

You did not hear about the hospitals we put back in to service, the schools we cleaned all the weapons caches from and got back running, or all the medical and food aid we poivided to the Iraqis. Most people don't know how much of a rut their infrastructure was in until we came to help not to mention the genocide put on non-Baathists or the mass graves we uncovered.

I will stop here before I get into a rant

meh, you won't.

Any material that portrays our troops in anything other than a highly unfavorable light won't be seen in the MSM.

> Has anyone seen anything like this on a US news channel?

NPR has done several such reports. One was a ten minute segment on a small team of Marines who had singlehandedly recovered half the artifacts looted from the Baghdad Museum. Another described the story of a soldier who saved several Iraqis from a bomb blast by shielding them with his body. They interviewed his family and friends about his life and his decision to join the military.

Good story. Probably happens all the time, but doesn't get reported.

I have, rarely, but I have. Just a couple of weeks ago, at tha CASH in Anaconda, were I volunteer as medic in the ER, we had the discovery channel folks filming around. Also NBC was around there as well late January. Yet you don't see them going on patrols, when we go outside on CMO's, and treat the Iraqies, at their homes, or how hard we are going about it to make it better for them, while there are still elements trying to blow things that are there for the Iraqies....

Seems that they always wanting something sensational to report, the NBC guys, were pissed because we had a slow night at the hospital, go figure....:S
It's crazy at times.

On my first time around here, I had an unfortunate event, where their camera got a permanent malfunction, fortunately, for me, they were standing right where they should not have been....lol.
