Can't We Just Draft Our Next President?

Recommended Posts

http://draftfredthompson.com/

We don't need Billary, Rudy, John McCain, or Obama.

We need someone who can do the job and does not care about politics anymore, we need a guy who has the balls to do what is right.

We need to ask a guy to run that does not need to be president in order to fill his pockets or use his office to help criminals.

Fred Thompson? He's an actor. Who ever heard of an actor becoming president?
Ridiculous.

OK, seriously, why does Thompson have more appeal than, say, McCain? Their experience, politics, abilities, appeal and credibility seem to be similar.

Thompson's been involved in politics for a long time, first as a Congressional lawyer, and then as a Senator, etc. As I recall, he decided not to run for re-election after his adult daughter died from natural causes, to be with his family more.

Thompson is a Reagan conservative.

He is pro second ammendment unlike McCain and many others.

It seems his weakest point is on immigration but that can change for the better.

It may be that he just wants the laws on the books enforced therefore removing the need for additional legislation in regards to enforcement.

I don't know for sure

Well, to be serious, while I believe that Fred Thompson has the smarts, etc., to be POTUS, if he doesn't want to be, then don't pressure him.

The people that should lead often don't want to. The people that shouldn't lead are often the ones that get the title.

TV Star, Former Republican Senator Fred Thompson Mulls '08 Presidential Bid
Thursday, March 08, 2007

WASHINGTON — Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is facing increased calls to get into the 2008 GOP nomination race.

Sources told FOX News that Thompson, 62, now one of the stars of the popular NBC prime time series "Law & Order," has not ruled out a presidential bid, and has authorized advisers and supporters to continue to gauge support.

Advisers are holding regular strategy sessions, investigating fundraising avenues and private polling to measure enthusiasm. Perhaps pre-eminent among a number of prominent Thompson backers working behind the scenes is former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker...

Thompson's wife, Jeri, very much supports a run, sources said. While Thompson, who also helped raise money and advise I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's legal defense fund, continues to mull a bid, sources said he has been inundated with calls from GOP donors and supporters urging him to run.

Thompson has a solid and consistently conservative voting record that his supporters said makes a stark contrast to Republican frontrunners Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

This week, he told radio news host Mark Levin that he would have something to say about his plans, but not yet...

I like McCain, but more to the point, I've thought for a while that public office should be a duty and assigned much like Jury Duty.

Can't be much worse than what we got now, and somewhere way back in history, someone once said "Those that wish to lead, shouldn't".
