Traditions here in the US and God himself prohibited interracial marriages! From the Virginia Supreme Court: "Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix." And two years later, that ruling was overturned. So Bill was correct. Loving vs Virginia was only resolved in 1967.

The religious morality of a bunch of judges in Virginia was shown to be insufficient to deny people their rights, and the verdict was overturned. We are all better off because of that. I am confident that today's prohibitions against same-sex marriage will be overturned as well - and society will be better as a result.
sundevil777 102 #78 March 9, 2007 QuoteThey cannot marry those they love. Imagine if you were allowed to marry any norwegian you chose, but no one else. Would that mean you have the same rights as anyone else? Many people that are straight cannot marry those they love because of the law, polygamists. Many chose to ignore this, because it is a different issue, supposedly not many are fighting for their cause, they see no parallel to same sex marriage. Some say they are OK with polygamy, they just don't see it as an issue that needs to be discussed. I think they don't want to discuss it because the general public does see the direct comparison to same sex marriage, and they know the argument for same sex marriage can't survive the comparison. If you're OK with polygamy - do you agree the laws prohibiting it should be changed, would you have a problem - would you have the slightest objection, if your daughter wanted to be in such a marriage? If you're not OK with polygamy - I'd like to hear your explanation of how it should not be compared to same sex marriage. Also, this bit of thread drift was not initiated by me.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Daughter - would depend on the people involved, just as her marriage to a man would depend on the guy involved. Law - the government should get out of the marriage business. Have the government's role be to set up civil unions, and leave the marrying to churches/secular ministers/captains of large sea vessels/Elvis (in Vegas, that is.)
