billvon 3,132 #1 February 27, 2007 I've been concerned recently about the new terrrorist sanctuary in Pakistan, especially with reports that Al Qaeda is rebuilding there. Some good news today: ------------------ Vice President Dick Cheney made an unannounced trip to Pakistan on Monday to deliver what officials in Washington described as an unusually tough message to Gen. Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan, warning him that the newly Democratic Congress could cut aid to his country unless his forces become far more aggressive in hunting down operatives with Al Qaeda. ------------------ Some more good news; at least one person won't be funnelling money to terrorists any more: ----------------- WASHINGTON (AP) -- A New York man accused of trying to help terrorists in Afghanistan has donated some $15,000 to the House Republicans' campaign committee over three years. Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari pleaded not guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to charges that include terrorism financing, material support of terrorism and money laundering. From April 2002 until August 2004, the man also known as "Michael Mixon" gave donations ranging from $500 to $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to Federal Election Commission reports and two campaign donor tracking Web sites. ------------------- Looks like the republican loss of both houses was bad news for Al Qaeda. Let's hope this continues.

sundevil777 102 #3 February 27, 2007 How is the guy's capture and prosecution related to the Repubs losing congress?People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
billvon 3,132 #4 February 27, 2007 > How is the guy's capture and prosecution related to the Repubs losing congress? ?? It's not. Al Qaeda's just been having a tough time lately, with all their ups and downs. First they pull off 9/11. Success in their books. Then we invade Afghanistan. For a while there it looked like curtains for old Al Qaeda. We were closing in on Bin Laden himself when, in a stroke of good fortune, we get sidetracked into another war. He escapes and the Taliban begins to rebuild. Then, in a second bit of luck, they get a sanctuary inside Pakistan. They even got a Taliban supporter access to the GOPs "Inner Circle Leadership Committee" (which gets you perks like physical access to US senators) through campaign contributions. Then the party this guy was supporting loses, and he gets caught. It even starts looking like they may lose their sanctuary because of those meddling democrats. So sad, but personally I hope their bad day continues.
Guest #5 February 27, 2007 The Dems are going to do the same thing about al Qaeda that they did before - NOTHING. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
Skyrad 0 #6 February 27, 2007 The terror haven is a fabrication, one up the sleve for when we've attacked Iran and want to carry on to India. Pakistan has been conducting aggressive operations in that region against 'Al Q' since the anouncement was made last year. Pakistan has also been taking high casualties along its border and in the NWFP. A vast amount of its millitary resources are being used to try and close the routes into Afghanistan but its an impossible task. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. TheAnvil 0 #7 February 27, 2007 Where did you read the bit about Mr. Cheney mentioning the new Congress? I didn't read that on Fox or CNN. I'm glad Mr. Mixon is in custody and hope suffers greatly. billvon 3,132 #8 February 27, 2007 > The terror haven is a fabrication . . . From AP: ---------------- Osama bin Laden, America's most wanted man, will not face capture in Pakistan if he agrees to lead a "peaceful life," Pakistani officials tell ABC News. The surprising announcement comes as Pakistani army officials announced they were pulling their troops out of the North Waziristan region as part of a "peace deal" with the Taliban. If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen." -------------- This was later disputed by Pakistani officials. Suffice to say they have mixed feelings on the matter.
lummy 4 #9 February 27, 2007 I read it in the SF Chronicle yesterday. Ironically, it was on the same page as the story about Condi warning congress not to micromanage the Iraq war by cutting funding. What a radical idea. You know, we could still send $billions in aid to state sponsors of terrorism if we hadn't blown our wad attacking a country that wasn't one. I mean, if we can't cultivate a future adversary who are we going to be at war with ten years from now?
