If he was driving illegally or recklessly, she could have called 911 and reported it.

and reason shines out as a beacon of light on the wilderness of sef righteous and childish indignation

as a driver, if someone is an asshole I realize:

1 - It's not personal, that driver is likely an asshole and unsafe to everyone, not just me. Take exception to the acts, not the person, and stay in control. If I can't keep my temper NO MATTER WHO's fault it is, then I'm not fit to drive. Period.

2 - It's not my personal mission to 'return the favor', 'get even', go into a self righteous tantrum

3 - It's not my mission to teach them a thing or two. Driver's that pretend to be the teacher or a cop just for the sake of principle, are not fit to drive. Period.

4 - If it 'really' that bad, then I should call the cops. Even if the cops don't do anything about this particular event, eventually if enough of us make those calls, then they'll crack down on unsafe and discourteous drivers.

5 - Regardless of who I think started it, if I'm the first person to disengage, then I may have been responsible for avoiding and accident or dangerous confrontation. What do I care if some asshole stranger thinks they "won"? Who really spends that much time thinking about what others' opinions are?

...
Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Your social status boozing it up with judges and sherriffs doesn't make a compelling case.

You've managed to ignore the central point again, the driver's actions are not less reckless because her victims got lucky.

If we all threw supergulps at each other on the freeways the morgues would be backed up never mind the criminal justice system.

Well, I don't know, but it seems to me that it takes more attention to the road to throw a supergulp with any accuracy than it does yak away on a cell phone. Just yesterday on the highway I had to swerve to avoid a woman who pulled out of a McD's without stopping or looking, all the while talking on her phone.

:D:D:D

It may be a dangerous assumption to think we'd all be as good an aim as the felon in this case.
