Gawain 0 #1 February 14, 2007 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070214/ap_on_re_mi_ea/sadr_iran QuoteWord of al-Sadr's departure coincides with an announcement that Iraq will close its borders with Iran and Syria. This guy is one of the main obstacles. Hopefully, he won't be able to maintain real control over his militia from afar. It's good and bad that he's gone. Good that he may not be able to come back and/or regain equal control, bad that he won't suffer under the crackdown. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! billvon 3,132 #4 February 14, 2007 ----------------------- June 8, 2006 — Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda's leader in Iraq who led a bloody insurgency of suicide bombings and kidnappings, was killed in an airstrike Wednesday, north of Baghdad. U.S. Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, confirmed that the operation which ended in al-Zarqawi's death was the result of "tips and intelligence from Iraqi senior leaders from his network." . . . President Bush welcomed the news of the killing of al-Zarqawi by military forces in Iraq. Al-Zarqawi's death "is a severe blow to al Qaeda, and it is a significant victory in the war on terror," Bush said in a news conference at the White House. ---------------------- After this news report, violence in Iraq increased. Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen this time.
