Orlistat OTC

Recommended Posts

The first FDA approved over-the-counter diet pill. Lots of people want diet pills, but most would prefer not to take this particular diet pill. While the side effects can be pretty awful, health risks associated with this drug are minimal. The one I'd be most concerned about is metformin. A lot of people with diabetes are on metformin, and a lot of those same people are overweight. Orlistat increases the likelihood of lactic acidosis (life-threatening) when taken with metformin.

Orlistat works by inhibiting pancreatic and gastric lipases, decreasing fat absorption. If a person eats a fatty meal while taking this medication, she's likely to "leak." Ewwww. Without a fatty meal, it doesn't do much of anything. It'd train a person pretty quickly to 1) eat better and/or 2) not take Orlistat if eating a fatty meal.

By "leak" do you mean become incontinent? :oB|

Boy, I've got an idea.

How about we set aside the dingdongs and ho hos, and not eat 4 times the servings because it's "reduced fat" food, and maybe go, I don't know, walk our fat ass around the block a couple of times.

I know plenty of fat people. They:

a.) are inactive.
b.) eat bad food.

but are fat because they...

c.) do TOO MUCH of A and B.

And yes, I imagine that in a LIMITED FEW, there are people whos body's are incapable, but those, in my opinion, are outliers.

It's contraindicated against simultaneous use with olestra chips and taco bell. Also, do not allow your dog to eat orlistat with a bag of fake bacon dog treats.

The effect could be lethal on people around you.
My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?

The olestra chips....they've got something in them that keeps you from absorbing fat don't they? That's why they give some people the runs.... Didn't think of that.

Mmm HMM! Incontinent of bowel....

I just have to wonder who actually takes it. The few people who have asked me to write a prescription for diet pills got a prescription for Xenical (orlistat). When I told 'em what it was and that I wouldn't write for stimulants to lose weight, none of them has wanted it.

IIRC, olestra /is/ a fat that you can't absorb, but that can be used in some fairly traditional cooking processes and apparently tastes good enough to fool the average joe.

Not that I'd ever let it get near my mouth...
