n23x 0 #2 February 3, 2007 Boston didn't win shit. They've just become the most recent example of how foolish and over the top this country has become when it comes to "protecting my freedom". If they want to impress me, they'd say, "we over-reacted, our bad". .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC
ryoder 1,590 #3 February 3, 2007 The charges are: - Planting a hoax device. - Disorderly conduct. Merriam Webster: Hoax - "to trick into believing or accepting as genuine something false and often preposterous" Exactly how were they trying to make people believe the flashing signs were something other than flashing signs??? The problem is an advertising prank inadvertently caused a bunch of authorities to go into hysterics and make fools of themselves. People in power hate to look stupid, so they file charges in a desperate attempt to convince the public the advertisers did something wrong."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. 1969912 0 #4 February 3, 2007 What do you mean by "little stunt"? Their adv. agency put up what amounts to flyers with lights built in. It was not intended to turn into the giant circle-jerk it did in Boston. The signs were up in that city for at least two weeks; hell, the batteries may have even been dead before someone noticed. Next, Boston LE goes nonlinear, with the cops playing bomb squad/SWAT for a few hours. The signs were put up in at least six cities in the US; ONE city had a terrorism scare over it. Boston loses - they look like a bunch of fucking wankers. nathaniel 0 #5 February 3, 2007 I bet the execs at Turner consider it money well spent. This kind of press is invaluable, half the world is laughing at Boston now and patting Turner on the back. A million dollars would buy a minute or two of primetime, and Err has been on the news for days now. Jury of peers ftw.My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?

If they want to impress me, they'd say, "we over-reacted, our bad". .jim Boston will never say that although they should. A week after 9/11 I flew a Lear Jet air ambulance into Logan Airport to drop off a patient. We were parked at the General Aviation FBO and there was suddenly Security and X-ray machines set up. When our medical staff returned from the hospital they had to go through this new security check point. The police went through their medical kits and took all kinds of medical equipment like scissors, needles and anything sharp. It was nuts! I saw what was going on and walked over and introduced myself as the Captain of the aircraft and said these medical items were OK and needed if we got another call. I was told by a State Trooper that if I didn't walk away immediately I would be arrested! Those idiots had no idea what they were doing. Boston has been a real pain in the ass ever since. But the bottom line is that most of this airport security is a joke and not intended to keep us safer. It's intended to keep us properly terrorized so the government can do what it wants. examiner2 0 #7 February 3, 2007 I think that Boston definately overreacted. The press conference was hilarious though: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1739538 From the guys who did the ad campaign and work on the show Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

The funny thing is we had loads of other sharps on the aircraft. We had defibrillators that could electrocute someone. We had a tool kit full of pointy screwdrivers and other dangerous weapons. We had various drugs that could kill someone if used improperly. Hell, we even had a crash axe with a nice tip that would go through windshields or skulls. But the security people were keeping us all safe by closing the barn door after the horses got out.
freethefly 6 #10 February 3, 2007 Maybe these morons in Boston are just looking for a way to pay for their other moronic fiasco, the Big Dig. You know, even the judge who is presiding over this, thinks the prosecutor is a moron."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Check foxnews for the story. Nah... Turner won! The amount of free advertising they got is worth millions. There is no such thing as bad publicity. I see teeshirts, novelty replicas, and merchandising. No superbowl TV commercial would do what this did. Now, I don't believe they wanted it to turn out this way. But sometimes things work out better than planned. P.S. I believe http://www.hasbro.com/litebrite/ sales are going to skyrocket too... And - guess who is going to win the most? Consultants in the law enforcement industry to show police departments all over Boston the difference between a flat plexiglass with a bunch of LEDs and a few batteries - and something that actually looks suspicious.
