shropshire 0 #1 January 25, 2007 What do you think about your countries leaders and why? I have no respect for mine (they have not earned it). They are destroying the fabric of our nation and spending my money fighting an unjust war with no clearly stated enemy or goals. Money that they should be spending at home on our ailing Health care System (Once the pride of the world). To Hell with them!! (.)Y(.) ScottishJohn 25 #5 January 25, 2007 No, Blair lied to the British people about the reasons to go to war in Iraq. In doing so he has split the resources of the British armed forces which has left some of our men and women going into danger zones ill equipped to protect themselves properly and without the proper backup and support needed to do their job safely in both Iraq & Afghanistan. All politicians lie, but to lie on such a grand scale then to put people lives on the line because of the lies is unforgivable. It's about time we had a PM who grew a backbone and create our foreign policies from Westminster and not just follow what has been dictated to him from Washington. Oh , and please don't get me started on Gordon Brown.---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers

jumprunner 0 #15 January 26, 2007 QuoteActually, maybe a better question would be... Do you think that your leaders respect you!! And again my answer would be NO My answer is: Ofourse Not! After sending our jobs overseas, decimating the economy, making the few richer while everyone else keeps getting poorer, starting and maintaining an illegal war of aggression against the will of the public, creating a huge defecit that we all will be left to pay for, degrading our reputation as Americans to the international community, and the list goes on and on. The Bush/ Cheney gang is blatant about one thing, that they dont have any respect at all for Americans or America for that matter. I would have more respect for them if they were behind bars where they belong.

rhys 0 #18 January 26, 2007 >Where's all the YES folk? Hiding behind their vote? I'm a yes person. The leader of New Zealand is a wonderful woman (though butt ugly) Helen Clark has really Kept our country moving and Is not a cock sucker like other Prime ministers (eg, tony blair, and the aussie guy whats his name again?) She is well educated, well spoken and actually makes her own decisions (unlike some puppets we know of) Her stand on the war on terror was amazing and she stood firm with her beliefs that were proved to be correct. our countries stand on war is a peace keeping one. the majority of our military funds go to peace keeping efforts. She has climbed NZ's highest mountain (Aoraki, 12000' and a technical climb) and is not afraid to be amoungst the people. She gets my complete respect! I also have to mention that I also totally respect a former leader of our country his name is David Lange. His govornment made New Zealand a nuclear free country. You can just imagine the pressures he had in world summits etc. to let nuclear powered ships and subs into our ports. He basicly told the rest of the world to 'Fuck off' with thier nuclear bullshit and stay the fuck away from our paradise with the time bombs! masterrig 1 #19 January 26, 2007 I voted NO. I don't trust politicians in general. I don't care which party they belong to. I just think that, politicians are self-serving and out for what they can get for themselves while feeding the voters a long line of shit. I think too, each senator, congressman, president... whatever, could only serve 1-term then out they go. Also, get rid of the lobbyists... totally. It's worth a try! IanHarrop 43 #20 January 26, 2007 I voted no but to some degree it depends on the day and the issue at hand. In general politicians are a disease that we have to live with, a necessary evil if you will. I've told my son that if he becomes a politician that I would be ashamed of him and I will change my name. I think that many politicians may initially approach their jobs with altruistic goals, but I believe that they quickly become tainted with the stink of greed, corruption, and self-serving crap that is required to get and keep the job."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
rhys 0 #21 January 26, 2007 I believe you are confusing politition with corrupted politition. Ther have been many good polititions in history and just because of the bad eggs doesn't mean they are all evil. If someone wants to become a politition to create a positive impact they should not be discouraged, that is an admirable ambition. If they want become a politition to lap up fringe benifits and do fuck all then the should most certainly be discouraged"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

rhys 0 #23 January 26, 2007 >There is no difference between politician and corrupt-politician. maybe in your country. IanHarrop 43 #24 January 26, 2007 Quote>There is no difference between politician and corrupt-politician. maybe in your country. The political system is more to blame for the corruption than the polititions themselves. I suggest that the perceived difference between corrupt and non-corrupt politicians is actually the degree to which they are all corrupt. The ones that are perceived as being non-corrupt are only participating in corrupt activities that we have grown to accept as normal for politicians. By example, how many politicians have not exaggerated the faults of their opponents? Probably not many. Now what is exaggeration? At the most basic level it's lying. Another example... I think its common for people to simply accept that politicians make promises they know they cannot keep to get elected. Is this corruption? I suppose it depends on the definition you use. Certainly their morals are corrupt if they commonly lie and thinks it OK to deceive the electorate."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
vortexring 0 #25 January 26, 2007 For the record, I think the above posts from Ian and Rhys are rather interesting. Whilst I tend to agree more with Ian, it's nice to read about somebody who seems reasonably satisfied with their countries leaders. Still - NZ is a fantastic country. I'd live there if it wasn't so boring! I voted no - the reasons why have already been mentioned, however.... Why would somebody be motivated in becoming a politician? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
