Is Armageddon coming round to visit?

>That would be lovely Bill, but unnatural.

Well, so is living to age 70, skydiving and regular marriage. But we make conscious decisions that those things are worth it and work to achieve them.

>If people are gay - fine, but I'm uncomfortable with the
> normalisation of being gay, such as gay weddings.

Fair enough. I think that everyone should have the same rights regardless of orientation, and I think that churches and not governments should marry people. Governments should just set up the legal union that exists between them.

Eh, so was believing the earth was round.

Eh, the Bible speaks of the earth being round, not flat.

So was interracial marriage. So was letting women speak in church. Some day it won't be "an abomination to God" and people will laugh at the suggestion.

I don't know about all that but you'd be hard pressed to back any of that up Biblically. Not and keep the verses from being raped from their original context.

Some like to believe that the morals of a given religion are fixed, but in fact they have evolved with society over the ages. That will continue.

There are moral absolutes.

I am assuming the lifestyle that pajarito is referring to is the sexual relations between people of the same sex. Am I right pajarito? Do I win anything if I am right?

Correct. That and living together, sharing life's experiences in an intimate way, etc. Pretty much all that is reserved for marriage as it was defined originally by God himself.

No, I disagree with you Bill - living to 70 is normal - and why not skydive? I know older people who jump.
It's just not in the same context as gay weddings. How many animal species are full on gay?
It's not how mother nature intended. Now, if that's ones sexual orientation, we should be evolved enough to accept it - and yes, they should have the same rights.......but not marriage! It's so wrong in regards to human nature! Perhaps gay couples should receive the same status as male/female married couples in society, but without the marriage part.
Because it's unnatural!
Now, I do agree with a legal union - but not marriage. For me marriage is quite literally a sacred and religious act.

Did I say any of that was ok?

Added: Anyway, what has that got to do with anything? Is one wrong justified because so many others also do something else that may be wrong? That doesn't make sense.

Er....perhaps such an act could come into a sexual depravity classifacation:S

Still - there apparantly is a solution. Introduce your bloke to a big dildo:o It must work - FHM said so!

1 Timothy 2:11-14

Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

1 Corinthians 11:3

But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

From a decision by the Virginia courts:

"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix."

Nowadays you might think "those don't mean women can't speak in church, or that the earth is flat, or that chinese can't marry africans! That's a misinterpretation." It wasn't always seen that way, though. And someday your descendents will say the same about the bible and gay marriage.

May I ask, what rogue nation are you referring to?

Do you really need i spelled out to you? AMERICA. The land of the (once free[:/]) and the home of the brave

Amazon, do you believe the Bible to be true?

I believe the teaching of Christ to be that of one who tried to teach people to live withone another on this plane of existance...I also believe that much of the bible has been perverted to support the priestly/ruling class in subjugating the people and is false.

Do you follow everything in the Bible verbatim....unquestioning because you feel everything in it truely is the word of GOD??

Yup hindsight is wonderful, it seems people interpret the good book differently based on their circumstances. Circle of the Earth could mean the horizon in all directions, but noooooo... now it means sphere orbiting the Sun.

Look, biblical scholars need not apply their insipid rationalizations to science & physical reality so don't even try. Heck most in the USA are running around saying the Earth is 10k years old, and certainly don't buy into evolution.
That they even bother saying the bible says the Earth is a sphere while other beliefs are so profoundly out of whack with the indesputable reality of the universe & world we live in is only entertaining for it's incongruity.

In another four centuries they might catch up at which time they'll be arguing over some other thing, maybe quantum neurobiology, and saying that the bible anticipated evolution.

Don't believe me? I have heard a famous pastor saying in all sincerity that Adam's rib should correctly be translated as curve and it actually means the curve of the DNA Helix and so the Bible anticipates the discovery of helical DNA. So watch and see, it all gets claimed in the end once it's to embarrassing to maintain the denial.

Circle of the Earth = Sphre orbiting the Sun.

Adam's Rib(curve) = Eve created from Adam's helical DNA.

It does get a bit much to hear this shit, I mean a friking intuitive ultra-genius like Giordano Bruno get's burned at the stake for hitting the intellectual jackpot and the modern decendents of the folks who committed this crime against humanity are trying to say the Bible was right about that stuff all along even as they try to impede science on a number of fronts including geology, cosmology and most spectacularly, evolution.

You know, science is not your ball, go play in the corner with your own toys and leave the world of the rational to the thinkers.

No, I don't need it spelled out for me. The implication that the United States of America is a rogue nation and that it is the most likely to launch a nuclear assault resulting in nuclear proliferation is what I want spelled out (along with the reason the poster would imply such things). Once free? Do you no longer do something you used to do because you are no longer free to? What is that something?

The Bible isn't perfect - it's a collection of fables written by ancient man. The Bible is the word of God given in the words of men in history. The people you speak of possily recognise this fact, but for whatever reasons - refuse to accept these simple facts. And the problem lies with religious leaders. Not the bible.
Besides, religious leaders have nearly always been corrupted through their 'power.'

It seems real intellect is required to interpret biblical statements in comparison to what we know through science. But I think it's wrong to completely decide certain parts are complete codswallop through findings of science.

Are we ever - is it any wonder we're (America/the west) referred to as the Great Satan?

Whilst on the homosexual front - the Afghan's males quite happily indulge in 'bum' nights on Thursdays. Generally it's the blokes without beards who get bummed. Disgusting.

Seventh soldier eh?:S

Makes your bum ass hurt just thinking about it.:o

Kinda reminds me of the NVS video's of all the "friendly male hijinx" that was ensuing in the field during the wait for the US Invasion.

Proliferation simply means that a country is increasing their current number of weapons or creating weapons they never had. By signing the treaty, nations that currently have weapons are stating that they will not build more, and nations that don't have any are agreeing to not build any.

This is why the US and other countries are up in arms about the Iranian enrichment program that is going on right now. While Iran states that program is only for peaceful purposes, do you really believe that is the case in today's state of th world? One of the goals of the treaty is to "to promote co-operation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy", the problem with this is that there is no co-operation going on between Iran and other UN members.

Proliferation is already taking place by N. Korea, I believe they pulled out of the treaty to enable them to build / test weapons. If they had tested a nuclear weapon while they were a member of the treaty would most likely resulted in a much different manner.

Not that I agree with the thought that the US is a "rogue nation" but I'm sure if you asked someone from Iran they would believe that we are, again it all depends on who's side of the fence your on and who's propaganda you side with.

This quasi-statistic of yours intrigued me, so I looked it up. Different surveys put the Yanks who don't believe in evolution at somewhere between the 1/3 to 50% range – a bit higher than I anticipated.

Ah, but since I detected a whiff smugness in you post, you silly Brit, I also looked up how many Brits (silly or otherwise) don't believe evolution. Turns out it's...well, here's the quote and link:

Horizon survey: Britons unconvinced about theory of evolution

bbc.co.uk
26.01.2006

A survey for the Horizon science strand on BBC TWO suggests that over half the population of Great Britain do not believe in the evolution theory.

Furthermore, more than 40% of those surveyed believe that alternative theories to evolution - such as creationism and intelligent design - should be taught in school science classes.
