vortexring 0 #2 January 14, 2007 Indeed it would - but it makes me think why these nations hate America and the West so much. Should more effort be made to develop the relationships with Iran and Venezuela - despite their dislike and contempt of the West? It's not as if America and the West haven't been 'asking for it' considering our foreign policies over the decades. Or should we simply 'kick' their heads in? I don't know - I just feel war isn't ever a solution to such problems.....such as Iraq. And don't Ahmadinejad and Chavez know it. So what is the solution? Does it lie towards minor capulation? Fuck that. Any eggheads out there got any suggestions? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.' Ya know.........as I stood on a hill overlooking the Korean DMZ I contemplated this very question. Why does that guy in that tower right down there want to kill me? Why does he hate me so much? In fact I thought about it a lot for a long time. After spending almost 2 years in Iraq........I really don't give a rat's ass. Reminds me of something my attorney said about my ex-wife. vortexring 0 #4 January 14, 2007 Sorry mate - couldn't help laughing at that one! (evil ex-mrs) I see people working in Iraq and Afghanistan coming back with varying levels of dislike and hatred of the locals. Not just recently either - but for years and years. I wonder if that's the primary reason - cultures and people so different and brought up over hundreds of years to dislike and distrust one-another, relations are virtually impossible. I've found myself in my earlier years developing, to an extent, some dislike towards these people. But I'm lucky - I've been going over to the Middle East so many times now I've met more than enough decent people not to have such a clouded view as I had in the past. Anyway, who knows? Look at the French - even the French hate the French () and we're not a war with them. Sigh.... 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" vortexring 0 #8 January 14, 2007 Nah - I misspelled capitulation. But cheers anyway Ken. (I'd best explain 'Ken'; it stands for Kenneth Barlow, a very boring character from a British Soap called Coronation Street. So generally if somebody makes a rather boring and pointless remark you'd reply, "Yeah, cheers for that Ken." 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" bazelos 0 #17 January 15, 2007 I don't mean to be a prick here but, QuoteU.S. officials have accused Chavez -- a close ally of Cuban leader Fidel Castro -- of authoritarian tendencies, and National Intelligence Director John Negroponte said recently in an annual review of global threats that Venezuela's democracy was at risk. since when did the US care about democracy in other countries? Surely there was no problem placing authoritarian leaders in various countries to ensure that "communism doesn't spread to the free world". So why is it a problem when an elected (re-elected just over a month ago) president of a country wishes to do what he feels is best for his country? He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
