kai2k1 0 #1 January 12, 2007 KSDK - Days after an Amber Alert was issued for 13-year-old William "Ben" Ownby, he has been found alive-and years after one was issued for Shawn Hornbeck, he, too, has been found alive. They were found in an apartment in Kirkwood.Advertisement At a news conference, police said they had charged 41-year-old Michael J. Devlin of Kirkwood with one count of kidnapping. 2 Kirkwood police officers were serving a warrant in the area of the apartment when they saw a truck that matched the description of one seen leaving the area where Ownby was last seen. The search began Monday afternoon, when Ben disappeared shortly after getting off a school bus near Beaufort, Missouri, in Franklin County. Another teen who was with him saw a white truck with a camper shell speeding away from the area. Police had been searching for the truck, and were following up on more than 500 leads. Ownby's parents made an impassioned plea for his safe return Thursday evening. They created flyers to post around the area, hoping for his return, but knowing that each passing hour decreased the odds that he'd be found safely. In 2002, Shawn Hornbeck left his Richwoods, Missouri home around 1:15 on a sunny, Sunday afternoon on his bike to visit a friend. No one had seen him since, until Friday. Shawn and Ben both were taken to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department Friday. The F.B.I. joined the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in the investigation, and they were joined in the search by fire departments, National Guard troops, and volunteers. www.ksdk.com There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
Michele 1 #2 January 13, 2007 What's amazing is that not only did they find Ben, but they found Shawn who'd been missing for many years. Shawn's parents have an amazing story about faith and how they turned this around; they started an organization that helps find missing people. And now their son is back. And a motherfucker is behind bars...where he should be. Yes indeed, a feel good story all the way 'round. freethefly 6 #4 January 13, 2007 QuoteAnd a motherfucker is behind bars...where he should be. Wrong. He should be dangling from a rope. This all reminds me of that movie several years back called "My name is Steven" the true story of a boy who was kidnapped and raised by a pervert who then kidnapped another young boy who was saved by the first boy. Sadly the boy Steven died some years later in a motorcycle accident. His younger brother is doing life for a kidnapping and murder commited in the Sierra Nevada mountian range."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Michele 1 #5 January 14, 2007 I know of the family you reference...and yes, the younger brother killed at least 4 women in the Seirra NV/Yosemite park. Sad story all the way 'round. Do I think he should be dangling on a rope? Nope - according to our laws, he's due a trial and a fair sentencing...and if the judge and jury say "hang his happy ass" you'll find me all right with that. For now, he's behind bars, unlikely to get out and roam the streets...therefore, I think it's good for now. Would I lynch him? Nope...would I be surprised if others did? Nope again. I watched the press conference today, and it was very interesting. It's not too often a story ends as well as this one did - twice. Usually the reports are of dead children. And I am thrilled this one wasn't that. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Mockingbird 0 #6 January 14, 2007 I was so glad to see this news on TV this morning! Thank God for the boy who had his eyes open and noticed the truck in the area. Yea!!! I wish them as complete a recovery as possible from the trauma they've been through--- especially the older one-- I could see it in his face. Bless his heart.Blue skies & happy jitters ~Mockingbird "Why is there something rather than nothing?"
