What religion is this?

Recommended Posts

Say a person believes and KNOWS GOD exists, BUT unlike most Christians, believes in the possibility of ALIENS and EVOLUTION. And believes that since God is EVERYTHING, (hopefully not the bad stuff that goes on in the world!), He had a hand in evolution as well, if it indeed happened.

What kind of churh should that person go to??

That's someone who understands the difference between science and spirituality, understands that they focus on completely different aspects of life, and is therefore undoubtedly going to Hell.

Instead of wasting his time trying to be a good person, he should just join the Satanic Church and start sacrificing baby rabbits.

Aside from knowing God exists and the claim that God IS everything (versus created everything), I'd guess a significant portion of Christians in this country would fit your description.

To answer your question - most churches.

Kewl.. I was wondering about that.... I kept looking at my Dodge and wondering where the Made by God label was.....Now I can just worship my truck as part of my belief system.

Out of the 3 major religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) Islam is the only one who has embraced science. They view Science as a part of Gods work, and 1500 years ago they encourage scientist to a point that Baghdad was the center for all scholars.

Just as non-Christians are welcome at most Christian churches.

True...

But I didn't read it as though he was asking about churches for Christians. So I was just suggesting some churches where the beliefs he described would fit in. (Not saying those are the only possible choices though.)

maybe churches are for people to show other people that they belive in God

Or maybe people go to church because it's one of the few places they can share their religious beliefs without pissing other people off. ;)

Actually, I'm sure there are many different reasons why people go to church...

Personally, I go to church sometimes because I like the music and the people, and it's a pleasant way to spend my Sunday morning. But it's a UU church, and I don't think I've ever heard the word "god" mentioned there.

He's postulating a hypothetical theology, not asking whether people agree with it as consistent with their own.

I realize that. However, the part I mentioned sounded definitive. I was just curious as to where he came up with that. Not arguing for or against. Not yet... ;)

How could God be everything if he wasn't the bad stuff too?

He's not everything. Where is the basis for this thought? That's what I was asking before.

Correct sir. It would be very difficult for a fictional character to be anything at all.

However I was asking the OP for his reasoning, not you for yours.:)

C'mon, believing in the possibility of aliens existing on other worlds is far, far removed from believing in what that freakshow of an organisation spouts.;)

I think that your answer is as much an issue of perspective and willingness to make/not make logical determinations as Christians or anyone else does. I don't see a lot of difference in believing that alien beings can transport their intelligence to Earthlings being any more or less far-fetched in believing in a book that multiple people wrote via proxy about events they heard about 3-4th hand, that predicts events 2000 years off.
Hell, you can't even play "telephone" without someone screwing up the message. Scientologists just believe they get it straight. Christians get it from a source proven to be tainted. So...maybe Scientologists gots something we just don't have enough $$ to understand?
(personally, I agree w/you, BTW)
