Reid 0 #1 November 6, 2006 Hi, I am collecting data for a statistical study on the number of life threatening malfunctions related to the number of jumps a skydiver has. If you at least 1000 jumps please post or message me with how many life threatening malfunctions you had during you first 500 jumps, and how many during your second 500 jumps. (anything you feel was life threatening, landing off in a dangerous spot, cutaways, two parachutes open, line-overs, ect.) Example: Joe has 1,000 jumps with 3 life threatening malfunctions. He had 1 life threatening malfunction during his first 500 jumps, and 2 life threatening malfunctions during his second 500 jumps. Thanks so much, I will post the results when I am done! Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites riggerrob 643 #4 November 6, 2006 Simple answer: I have made over 5,000 jumps and suffered three malfunctions during my first 600 jumps, but no more until I had more than 1,000 jumps. My first malfunction was on my 45th jump, a packing error (failed the straighten out stabilizers on a Para-Commander-class canopy) by another freefall student. My second malfunction occurred when I had about 300 jumps, a packing error (main closing loop too long) on my part. And my third malfunction occurred when I had about 600 jumps, due to a packing error (failed to straighten stabilizers) by a friend. For a more detailed study of malfunctions, try to get a hold of British Army Parachute Association statistics. They are the only organization - that I know of - that records EVERY jump made by members. Still do not know what happened, progressive line twist on Safire with both toggles at place.
