It seems to me that you have that cartoon-ish idea about those who believe in God: That they believe in some big old guy with a beard sitting on a throne in the clouds

No now you're stereo-typing. Remember I'm agnostic. I don't claim that there is or isn't a God. All I'm saying is that I reject Christianity since it is a man-made religion. But I will say I like the way you've presented your arguments in this thread. It shows us that you're not the stereo-typical burble thumper. ;)

oops, I guess I was.:$

anyway, the bit about man being created in God's image refers to the fact that a human has an intellect and free will. The most fundamental definition of god is "a universal intelligence."

Since it is really the human mind that sets us apart from other organisms (not so much our outward appearance). So if an intelligence were to create something in "his" image, then "he" would create another intelligence. (There just aren't any satisfactory pronouns for God. God isn't actually male or female, but isn't an "it" either.)

Now that doesn't mean there can't be other creatures on other planets who also possess an intellect. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. The point is that it wouldn't matter what the aliens would look like. If they possess a form of free will & intelligence, then I would say that they too are made in the image of God.

Don't under estimate the intelligence of the animal kingdom. We may be a little smarter than they are, but my cat knows how to communicate with me when she wants something from me and I swear she's saying "thank you" every time I feed her. If she's capable of independent thought and shows signs of intelligence, why is she excluded from a so called heaven?

Plus while I know I can't group you into the stereo-typical burble thumper, too many of them say "God made us the way he intended us to be". Yet too many of these stereo-typical burble thumpers reject things like homosexuality and/or the transgendered community as immoral people. Yet they "the burble thumpers" tell everyone that God made us the way he wanted us to be. I see nothing but hypocricy coming from these burble thumpers. If God made people one way, why can't the burble thumpers accept these people for who they are.

PS: I'm not a homosexual or transgendered. But I dislike people who judge others who are different from themselves. These two groups are just easy examples of the hypocricy of the stereo-typical burble thumper. If God made us the way he intended for us to be, why can't the burble thumpers stop judging these people. They have enough turmoil in their lives without having society constantly passing judgement on them.

Certain morals of Christianity are good morals to follow (though shalt not kill, shall not steal, commit adultury, etc, etc, etc). But Christianity crosses the line the way they judge others who are different from themselves. Then again, I shouldn't just be picking on Christianity. I really should be picking on all man-made religions.
