CanuckInUSA 0 #1 December 17, 2006 This message was originally posted by myself to a Canadian message board, so obviously in has a certain Canadian tone to it. But the message also applies to you my friends down in the USA as well as anybody in any democracy around the world. QuoteCareer politicians think the general population is stupid and ignorant and they will always try to manipulate public opinion to achieve their agenda and in far too many respects, we have let them tell us lies and we have let them manipulate our opinions. It's doesn't matter if these politicians come from the ranks of the arrogant, corrupt and entitled LIEberals or if they come from the likes of the industrial military complex of the USA. It's time that the average citizen takes back democracy both here in Canada as well as in the USA from these career crooks. When they say something (this includes the media who often is in bed with these policitians), we as individuals must do our homework to ensure that the messages being told to us is the truth or if they are lies. I wish I had an easy answer on how to take back democracy tomorrow. But I'm afraid that it's not that easy. But we as average citizens must begin thinking for ourselves and do our homework on domestic and international issues. Good luck ... we're all going to need it. R- You're mostly right; but since you're picking nits on the subject (thus not addressing the OP), I'll point out that binding referenda or propositions (those having the effect of law, not just the opinion kind) that are directly voted on by the voters are a form of true democracy. A republic is a pack of wolves in charge of a flock of sheep. It's funny listening to some of you guys define what democracy is and isn't and that America isn't a democracy yet when we listen to GWB's propaganda all we hear is "we need to spread democracy in the Middle East" blah blah blah. Well as an outsider I'm finally waking up to the fact (I don't know why it's taken me so long) that America is nothing more than an Imperialist power set on conquering the world for it's own selfish economic reasons. So who's next? Iran would be the logical answer. But I'm guessing North Korea is just around the corner since it's the gateway to China. That will be fun to watch. Watching America take on a billion plus China-men. Face it, it's not about freedom. It's not about WMD. It's not about democracy. It's not about radical Islam. It's about world dominance. It's about having a McDonalds and a Haliburton on every street corner. PS: I'm surprised we haven't seen the American military in the Alberta tar sands yet. But I guess you'll be here once you've sucked the blood out of the Middle East's oil supplies. CanuckInUSA 0 #12 December 18, 2006 QuoteIt's too cold in Canada Global warming is fixing this issue. QuoteTired of American politics? I'm not against the average American. I think the average American citizen is often (not always) a good person. But I am very frustrated with American leadership. GWB has done nothing but lie to you people. In my eyes he's one of the worst people your 50.1% could have ever choosen. And what's worse many of these 50.1% continue to either buy into GWB's lies and/or know they are lies but agree with the warped reasoning behind the lies. Quoteand spent all your money on "cradle to grave" entitilements I am equally disenchanted with Canadian socialists. They are scum and the arrogant and corrupt LIEberals promise the world to the lemmings, do nothing but waste money and steal from the tax payer and the lemmings love them for it. rickjump1 0 #13 December 18, 2006 Bush is more interested in catering to the Mexican and Saudi governtments than his own citizens. How can he sleep at night knowing that anyone can cross our borders? I think we go out this year with the second most do-nothing congress on the books. Corruption? Let's see if the democrats mean what they say. I think it's typical political bullshit. Hope I'm wrong. I almost immigrated to Australia years ago, and sometimes I wish I'd gone. Now i'm just going to immigrate to Montana. But now I see I was mistaken. QuoteCanada is too beautiful to leave. The maritimes in the East have some of the most friendly people you will ever meet. But unfortunately they too are socialist lemmings now dependent on governments since they over fished the oceans and killed pretty much everything that lived there. And as far as beauty is concerned, well Western Canada's Rocky Mountains, interior BC and the West coast are to die for as far as their scenery is concerned. Don't watch those yankee channels. For what it's worth (aside from whether Canada has an adequate military), I don't see Canadians or their interests being subject to the same attacks, either on their soil or abroad, as either the USA or the UK periodically experience. Maybe it's because, internationally speaking, they generally mind their own business. That's not always a good thing, but it's worth mentioning. You could stand to read what he actual said, too... which was along the lines "if terrorists acquire and then use a biological, chemical or nuclear weapon that inflicts heavy casualties" might cause "our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event." (I do all the time.) But I think a lot of people prefer the "power" they perceive in a monolithic party. If someone wants prayer in schools (or name your cause) they think getting all republicans/democrats in power will accomplish that far more effectively than one pro-prayer senator.
