QuoteThat's the Coburn-Obama bill,
If correct, that would give Senator Obama a one-up over Senator Clinton. In a mere two years, he may have introduced and passed legislation, as opposed to six-plus years with no ground breaking legislation introduced.

Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright

""There will be no congressional earmarks," Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., and Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va."
COUGH! COUGH! HACK! CHOKE!
Senator Robert Byrd has relished being nicknamed the "King of Pork." He once said, "They call me 'The Pork King,' they don't know how much I enjoy it."
How many buildings, roads, etc., does Byrd have named after him? Dozens, if not hundreds.
He's got 30 public works projects going on right now named after him. 2006 had about $240 million in pork going to West Virginia. $400 million in pork in 2005 - mainly transportation. $400 million in 2002.
Hes directed almost $3 billion to West Virginia in pork since 1991.
By the way, the vote for the earmark reform bill went down in the House on September 14, 2006. Here's the tally for House Resolution 1000 taken from the House of Representatives web site: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll449.xml#N
Ayes: 245 (199 Republican, 45 Democrat, 1 Independent)
Noes: 171 (24 Rep, 147 Dem)
In viewing the "No" votes, we see that the same Rep. Obey voted "No" on the policy he NOW publicly supports! According to the article, the ban on earmarks was "quickly endorsed by incoming speaker Nancy Pelosi." Uh-oh. SHE VOTED NO ON IT BEFORE! Now she supports it? Hmmm...
It is strangely reminiscent of the incident in California a few years back, where the Dem assembly leadership left a microphone on while they were planning to cause a state governmental shutdown so they could blame it on the Republicans.
Pass the Tylenol. I'm waiting to see what's next:
1) Ted Kennedy holds a press conference to support a bill to re-institute Prohibition of alcohol;
2) George W. Bush, in his State of the Union address, openly chastises Congress for appropriating funds to support an illegal war in Iraq.
3) Alcee Hastings introduces an "ethics in the Judiciary" bill that makes impeachment of federal judges easier.
4) John Kerry, with introduces a bill that increases the tax rate to 60% on the richest 15 percent of Congress. The bill will be cosponsored by Democrat gazillionaires like Herb Kohl (the richest Senator) and Jane Harmon (the richest Representative) and Nancy Pelosi in the House. Jay Rockefeller and Dianne Feinstein will be among th egazillionaires who support it in the Senate.
My wife is hotter than your wife.

I'm surprised you're pretending to be shocked by this.
The majority party doesn't need earmarks nearly as much as the minority does. The majority can always vote for what they want again. In Sept, they were the minority. Now they're not. Hence, the vote shift.

Nothing surprises me. I am often, however, shocked bythe sheer audacity of many. I mean, Byrd standing tall against pork???
It's all image. All of it. I hate that.

I'm with ya on this one..
